Best Orthopedic Dog Bed

Best Orthopedic Dog Bed

I struggled to find reviews based off of dog size, so I hope this one (along with the photos) helps. We think she is a Shiba Inu mix. She can stretch out decently in the jumbo size without it being too large, and loves laying against the sides. This is the first bed she ever liked, and I’m so happy they made a jumbo size for her! We didn’t try the regular size so I can’t compare them unfortunately. She is roughly 22″ by 12″ in the second picture with her head extended. In the first curled up picture, she is roughly 17″ by 13″. As you can see, she still has a little room to spare. My guess is that the bed would fit a 35lber but not much more. It’s possible she would have fit in the smaller one, but since people were posting pictures of their chihuahuas in those I went for the jumbo, haha. Hope this helps someone!! .

Jellyfish Lamp Aquarium

Jellyfish Lamp Aquarium

I like to occasionally add decorations to our guest house and this one turned out to be a real conversation starter. The guest comment on how they love just relaxing and watching the jelly fish. There is a multi color or choose a single color. I like the blue myself.

This was a good project for my girls to work on together. They soaked the jellyfish in soapy water (blue Dawn) overnight, then rinsed them off as to not make the water turbid. Then they filled the plastic tank with distilled water., added the jellyfish and viola, instant feed free aquatic life.

This comes with everything you need (except soap and distilled water) to get you up and running: tank, lid, motor, cord, wall outlet head, and two 4″ jellyfish that are unique from one another.

Typhoon Preparedness Priorities

Some days you must pay the piper when living in a tropical paradise, and today is that day for us here on the island of Guam in the Western Pacific. This afternoon, we are literally hunkered down while Typhoon Mangkhut passes just to our north across the Marianas Island chain. The eye of the typhoon is just under 100 km to our north and thankfully, this typhoon has weakend slightly as it makes its approach towards Guam. Just a few more hours and we will be on the downside of it all. So far though, things have not been that rough and we still have power (knocking on wood). Mostly gusty winds and rain. By tomorrow afternoon, we will be back in paradise and will await for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at us next.

The “Flame Tree.”

blank

Flame Tree on a Guam beach.

“Flame Tree.” We happen to have a couple of them within view of our kitchen window here on Guam. Referred to as “Botanical Rubies,” Delonix regia, the flame tree, is a species of flowering plant in the bean family Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae. It is noted for its fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of flowers.

You can find them In the continental United States in Central and Southern Florida, and in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. It is a cherished tree in the Caribbean and is featured in many Dominican & Puerto Rican paintings. It can also be found in Belize, The Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, Hawaii, Mexico (especially in the Yucatan peninsula), Nicaragua, Isreal, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canary Islands, Curaçao, GUAM, and in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, where it is the official tree of the islands. In Mauritius and La Réunion it announces the coming of the new year. In the Philippines, its full bloom signals the imminent arrival of the monsoon rains. It is very widely grown in the Northern Australia, although it now grows and blooms successfully in Sydney. It can also be found in Hong Kong, Paraguay, Peru, Spain (southern coast of Spain) the valencian coast and on all Canary Islands, Thailand, Sri Lanka and southern China. It is the official tree in Vietnam, and parts of Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China. It also grows throughout southern Brazil, with ornamental trees in Rio Grande do Sul.

So, if you have never seen one up close and in person, my guess is you probably need to get out more and see the world! lol

Mussels harvested from the Puget Sound are testing positive for opioids. The source of the drug is coming from treated sewage water being returned to the Sound. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration estimates that 300 pounds of pharmaceuticals, personal care products and industrial compounds are introduced in to the Sound on a daily basis.

Mussels are filter feeder and they don’t metabolize opioids. As they filter water that they need to obtain nutrients they also intake and store pollutants in the water. To determine the level of pharmaceuticals in the water, they took clean mussels and placed them at several locations. They were left for months and extracted. They were analyzed for drug levels they stored.

The analysis showed levels that were too lower to affect people consuming the mussels. The test did indicate that the level of opioids is increasing.

Night Time Surf Glows

blank

Source: sandiegouniontribune.com

Over the past few days, a red tide appeared off the coast of San Diego. The red tide is caused by an algae bloom in the water near the area where salty sea water meets with freshwater. The tide contains large concentrations of aquatic microorganisms.

Some of the microorganisms are bioluminescent phytoplankton. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. If you ever came across fireflies, lightening bugs or glowworms, you will know what bioluminescence looks like. The light results from a chemical reaction between a light emitting molecule and an enzyme.

During daylight, the affect water appears to be discolored varying in color from a rust to blood red. But during the night, the tide takes on a different hue due to the phytoplankton. As you can see in the photo, the color is an eerie bluish glow. The glowing light is reminiscent of the glow emitted from the auroras.

Where the words “Tea” and “Chai” came from?

blank
In different regions of the globe people Usually use different words for tea but there are some amazing similarities in these words because almost all of these words are derived from only two origins. Why they call it these particular words? there are particular reasons & history behind these words. Some call it “tea” while others call it “cha” or “chai” & they have two groups & both have Chinese origin.
Recent studies show that tea’s origin was China. It is also believed that India or Taiwan or other neighbor areas can also be included in the first known areas where tea was produced in ancient times. Due to its bitter taste it was called “tu”, which was used for bitter vegetables. In 7th century this word was changed to “te” & in different Chinese dialects its translated as “cha”. There are China’s two languages where from the both words are derived, Sinitic & Min Nan. the both are varieties of languages, in Sinitic its called “cha” & in Min Nan its called “te”. If tea reached to us through sea than we call it “tea”, “tee”, “te” or “thee” other wise we would name it as”cha”, “chai” “chay” or “shay”. In Chinese coastal regions they call it “te” because they use Min Nan dialect. The Silk road is also being used for thousands of years to supply tea to other regions of the world & its supply centers are the Chinese areas where Sinitic dialect is used & they call it “cha”.

Simple philosophy of Life & time!

blank

My favourite quote about life
“Life is like ice, use it before it melts”
My teachers repeatedly teach me that life (& also time) is like ice whether we use it or not it melts, so we should better use it before it melts completely.Time is also slipping away like ice is melting away, so we should not waste our precious moments of life & try our best to use them in not only the service of humanity but the whole universe. Our decision of using it or not will not affect the passage of time but it will only affect us.
So use it and get benefits from it before nothing left for us.

I also found some resembling quotes.
