Photovoltaic Highway

This one kilometer highway covers 5,875 square meters and a peak power generating capacity of 817.2 kilowatts.  The road is composed of three layers of translucent concrete on the top, the photovoltaic panels sandwiched in the middle and bottom layer is insulation.  Drivers state that the surface is very similar to an asphalt road.  France was the first country to test out a solar panel highway back in 2016.

They have future ideas of a system to charge electric vehicles while the vehicles are traveling along the highway.  The  vehicle will need to have a compatible charging system but they believe the application is viable.
