Hawaii Just Got a New Island

blank

Source: strangesounds.org

With all the lava flowing out of Kilauea, a new island have appeared off of Kapoho.  Kilauea has now been actively spewing out lava for more than 2 months.  Kilauea has been more or less an active volcano since 1983 but it only had a continuous lava flow since the last eruption.

As you may know the all the Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanoes, so this new island is just part of the changing earth.  Hawaii is just one of the many active volcano which have been waking up.

The Oraefajokull volcano in Iceland has been showing signs of a possible eruption, the Anak Krakatau in Indonesia has been having continuous explosions and this is alarming as the last time Krakatoa erupted it killed more than 36,000 people.  It’s explosive force was equivalent to 13,000 atomic bombs going off simultaneously.

Illegal Immigrants on an Island? You Betcha!

blank

Guam is located approximately 6,000 miles from San Francisco, CA; 3,800 miles west of Honolulu, HI; 1,500 south of Japan; and 1596 miles east of the Philippines. Because of  Guam’s isolated location in Western Pacific, you would think that this tiny island would not have a problem with illegal immigration, but you would be wrong.  Many refugees from the Asian continent mistakenly think that Guam might be a somewhat convenient backdoor into the United States and they see Guam as one small step for man that leads to one giant step to the U.S. mainland. Most fly into Guam with temporary or tourist visas and never return, putting them in an overstay status while maintaining hopes of becoming permanent residents. Unfortunately for the majority, it does not work out that way. Entering Guam illegally or with the overt reason of seeking asylum is likely to end up as a dead-end nightmare and nothing at all like the dream of being greeted by open arms in the United States.  It has been estimated that there are about 2,500 illegal residents on Guam. Those who are caught are usually interred in a detention center awaiting either deportation or asylum hearings, which can take up to two years for a single case to be heard.

blank

Guam is an island territory of the United States located 900 miles north of the equator in the Western Pacific. Guam is four to eight miles wide and 32 miles long and is the largest of the Micronesian islands. Guam’s lush tropical terrain along with urban areas within the island covers about 220 sq. miles and is the southernmost island in the Mariana Island chain. It is the 32nd largest island of the United States. The capital city of Guam is Hagatna (formarly Agana).  It is also the closest land mass to the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest part of the world (Challenger Deep).

blank

Because of its western location from the International Date Line (180th meridian), Guam is the first to experience the new day in the United States; hence Guam is “Where America’s Day Begins.”

Future of NATO

blank

Source: rt.com

There are many conflicting stories coming out about Trump’s position on NATO.  Some are saying that he has threatened to put out of NATO, some are saying that Trump demanded that other member nations allocations will be increased and others are denying that Trump made any such claims.

Some things are obvious without anyone needed to verify it.  One is that only 5 members are living up to the agreement to pay 2% of their country’s GDP for defense spending and the US is spending more than all the other 28 members combined.  The most blatant is Germany whom only spent 1.2% of its GDP.

Globally, all countries are suffering from the economic downturn so these members are cash strapped.  Geo-politically, the world seems like it is on the verge of the next world war so a strong military presence is vital.  The global alliance structure is in flux as more countries are moving to making alliances with the BRICS as the western supremacy is failing.  A question should be asked will the next war have the current NATO members on the same side as the US / UK?

Although it has been said that Trump never broached the point of withdrawing from NATO, he was asked by journalists if he were to decide to withdraw would he need to consult with congress.  His response was that he thinks he can pull out of NATO without congressional approval.  As the exact context is not known, it would be errant to draw an assumption but it does indicate that the possibility is on his mind.  If it were not, his answer would have been more on the lines of consulting with congress is not even an issue.

The Second Time is the Charm

blank

Source: zerohedge.com

With the recent uptick in her political activity, rumors are surfacing that Hillary is laying the ground work for another run for president.  For a few months after her defeat she remained relatively quiet, recently she has voiced her opinion on the highly controversial border issue and the resigning of Justice Kennedy.

Her grandstanding for the plight of the immigrant families separated at the border has raised some $1.5 million.  Her support of this cause should be a good example of how she will handle her campaign if she does run in 2020.  She has long been an advocate of building a border fence and ‘zero tolerance’ immigration measures but to gain a footing she will change her ideology.

She has teamed up with a group called onward together to possibly stymie any justice appointment made by Trump.  The group’s mission statement is ‘To protect the federal judiciary and stop Trump from hijacking the courts’.

Recently her and Bill lowered them selves to fly on a commercial airline.  I can’t recall them ever taking a flight with the unwashed masses.  One thought came to mind was that this maybe her way of trying to make her seem that she is just like the little people and be more likely to gain the votes of the commoner.

Macron Asks For Mayor’s Help to Battle Drug Trafficking

blank

Source: aljazeera.com

Macron has admitted that they have lost the battle against drug trafficking occurring in the growing number of no-go zones.  He asked for the assistance of the mayors and the public to find solutions.

The mayors were expecting more from Macron, they were anticipating some concrete guidelines for resolving the growing problem but instead they found that Macron just put the problem on their backs.  Their expectations were probably based on the ambitious strategy that was initially proposed by the former minister, Jean-Louis Borloo.  These strategies were tried and failed to bear any results but at least there was a concrete plan.

blank

Source: voiceofeurope.com

Macron’s vague idea is to create a ‘society of vigilance’, an idea that sounds similar to the US idea of ‘if you see something, say something’.  He proposed that by 2020, there will be 1,300 additional police to cover the no-go zones.  These ‘no-go’ zones are referred to as sensitive areas.  In 2011 a report entitled ‘Suburbs of the Republic’ concluded that many French suburbs are becoming separate Islamic societies cut off from the French state and where Islamic law is rapidly displacing French civil law.

Macron realistically can’t be held totally responsible for the deterioration of France as he has only held his current position since 2017.  This problem was known from at least in 2011 when the ‘Suburbs of the Republic’ was penned.  Fancois Hollande was the president from 2012.  The issue with Macron, is he lax stance on immigration which is the main cause of the growing ‘no-go’ areas.  Also Macron apparently has no idea on how to being to rectify the problem.

Every Nation Gets The Government It Deserves

blank

Source: wikiquote.org

Joseph de Maistre was a 18th century French philosopher.  He coined the quote which has been reverberated by more well known people like Alexis de Tocqueville and Abraham Lincoln.  The quote I am referring to is ‘Every nation gets the government it deserves’.

He also stated ‘All grandeur, all power, all subordination to authority rests on the executioner:  he is the horror and the bond of human association.  Remove this incomprehensible agent from the world and at that very moment order gives way to chaos, thrones topple and society disappears’.  Reading into this quote, I believe the crux is that without the threat of punishment, civility will not exist.

Another quote was ‘Wherever an altar is found, there civilization exists’.  I read some articles addressing the creation of religious groups, they point out that religion was contrived to exert control over the masses.  As a personal note, I am not totally in agreement that this is the sole purpose of religion but I do see where it can be used by governments to control people.

From these quotes, one can assess that Joseph de Maistre was somewhat of a revolutionary.  I believe he was more of a philosopher who quoted on what he saw taking hold in society during his life.  These quotes are as relevant today as they were in his time.

Source: voiceofeurope.com

The news that prompted this post is Tunahan Kuzu.  He is the leader of the DENK party in the Netherlands.  The DENK is a controversial party which is rapidly gaining power in urban areas, especially areas that have a high Muslim population.

As you may be aware the Netherlands is another country being affected by the waves of migrants.  Kuzu responded to the strife being caused by the migrants “If they don’t like a changing Netherlands in which people with different cultures live… like in the city of Zaandam or the neighbourhood of Poelenburg, they should get lost”.

As pointed out in Joseph de Maistre’s quote, the Dutch are now reaping what they sowed.  Not that I believe that they deserve the extent of the destruction being caused to their country but they are responsible as that they voted in the politicians that allowed the migration to occur.  This is not only occurring in the Netherlands but in countries all over the globe.

Feinstein Maneuvers For Party Unity

blank

Source: theintercept.com

The political game plan is spin.  Feinstein failed to win the primary, she garnered 37% of the votes while her opponent, de Leon garnered 54%.  In California, the top two vote getters advance to the general election, de Leon and Feinstein were the top two.  Since they both are running as democrats, an executive board gets an opportunity to endorse one of them.

The executive board procedure is to have the candidates register to appear on the ballot, Feinstein registered by paying the $1,000 fee.  The endorsement of one of the candidates would ideally unite the party’s support.

For weeks after registering, Feinstein and her team have been calling, emailing and texting the approximately 360 delegates of the party’s executive board.  They determined that de Leon is close to securing the 60% endorsement threshold.  Based on this information, Feinstein now took the position that the delegates should not endorse either candidate in the name of party unity.

It appears that Feinstein’s reign of 26 years is about to come to an end.  She is spinning to hopefully remain on the taxpayer dole.

Came Here From Steemit

hello everyone, I came here from a site called Steemit. I really liked it, until recently. I became a victim of down vote abuse from trolls. I did nothing to deserve the hate, all I wanted to do was share my content with the world and I got a bunch of hate. My post even got hidden by people with enough SP, I couldn’t take the hate anymore, so I made another account to hide from the trolls, ( it can take Steemit 1-2 weeks to approve you) if that doesn’t work, then I will be forced to leave Steemit. I cannot take being hated when I done nothing wrong. I may pop on every now and then, but I will hardly post anything.

A person who is also a down vote abuse victim introduced me to this site. Hope I can makes some friends, I am a YouTuber and aspiring photographer. Like to post funny memes.

TSA Screeners Immunity From Abuse Claims

blank

Source: yahoo.com

In a 2-1 vote, the 3rd US Circuit Count of Appeals in Philadelphia upheld TSA screeners are shielded by the government sovereign immunity.  Under the the Federal Tort Claims Act (the following paragraph was copied from wikipedia.org)

Thus, both federal and State law may impose limitations on liability. The FTCA exempts, among other things, claims based upon the performance, or failure to perform a “discretionary function or duty.”[1] The FTCA also exempts a number of intentional torts.[2] However, the FTCA does not exempt intentional torts committed by “investigative or law enforcement officers,” thus allowing individuals aggrieved by the actions of law enforcement officers to have their day in court.

The appellate court found that TSA screeners are not ‘investigative or law enforcement officers’ so the FTCA exempts their job function from liability.

? Urban Sketchers Medellín #4 ? ? – Parque Boston

blank

Hello there friends!!! ?

This is my fourth post about the Urban Sketchers of Medellín, this time we went to draw at Park Boston, near the city centre, although more than a park it’s like a town square but they call those here “parks”.

I decided to draw the statue at the square centre because it was like the most iconic thing I could see, and I found the pose of the human figure quite funny and curious hehe, this is the statue of an independence war hero called José María Cordova, not my intention to mock history but the statue pose made me remind of Freddie Mercury’s iconic image LOL.

Hello Again!!! ?

This is my third go with the Urban Sketchers of Medellín, this time we went to draw at a roundabout near the metro station Aguacatala, in Colombian Spanish “Glorieta” is the name used for roundabouts, something I learned that day, cause in Venezuela we call them “Redoma”…Google maps uses a more neutral term “Rotonda”hehe.

That particular view I drew reminded me a lot my Caracas ?? hehe, in fact the following monday some of the group met again for hiking that hill near where I live called “Cerro las tres cruces” for another extra official drawing session and enjoy the non working Monday…and from there on top of the hill there is another view which looks very much like Caracas too.

Here is the photo of the Urban Sketchers group from last Saturday ?

Hello Again!!! ?

This is my second go with the Urban Sketchers of Medellín, this time we went to the far South of Medellín’s Metropolitan area, a town called La Estrella, very nice I liked it there although the entire afternoon looked like it would rain, good thing it didn’t. This time I did pick carefully what I would draw and wandered for a while looking for the angle of the church that appealed me the most, finally I found a spot where to sit and began drawing ?

Here is the photo of the Urban Sketchers group that day ?

Godfather of Payday Lending

blank

Source: philly.com

Charles Hallinan was a Main Line investment banker.  He built a lending empire which preyed on the financially strapped.  He was sentenced to a 14 year federal prison term and was fined more than $64 million.  He was convicted of 17 counts to include racketeering, international money laundering and fraud.

Hallinan’s attorney plead that his sentence should be reduced as his client is 77 years old and the sentence of 14 years would most likely mean that he would die in prison.  The judge rejected the attorney’s appeal saying “It would be a miscarriage of justice to impose a sentence that would not reflect the seriousness of this case.  The sentence here should send a message that criminal conduct like (this) will not pay”.  The judge’s decision was probably prompted by the defendant’s unrepentant attitude during the sentencing.  Probation officers assigned to the defendant commented that the defendant was ‘exactly the opposite’ of contrite.

blank

Source: philly.com

Above is the disclosure of credit term for one of the short term payday loans offered by Hallinan.  What should grab your attention is the amount of the APR, 1,825%.  I am not overly sympathetic with the borrows as it is their own responsibility to understand what their are agreeing to prior to signing the loan agreement.  On the other hand, I am in agreement with the judge’s decision to sustain the defendant’s attorney’s request for leniency.

Pelosi Thinks Younger Leadership is Sexist

blank

Source: pinterest.com

Age is not the issue, there are many so called leaders whom are much younger which should be replaced.  She had the audacity to call herself a ‘legislative virtuoso’.  She told Rolling Stone that calls for someone younger to lead the democrats after the midterm was a sexist remark.  This shows how out of touch this person is, her sex is not at issue.

It is obvious that she has no clue on how her physical condition is affecting everything from her ability to walk, talk and think.  There are several videos on her going into a catatonic state while speaking, forgetting name, failing to pronounce common words correctly and some time having problems walking.

Just the other day, during an interview she forgot the name of the senate majority leader.  Even when she was a bit more in control of her faculties, she told the members of the senate that in order to get the details of the ACA bill, they would have to pass it.  Is this appropriate leadership?

blank

Source: giphy.com

This gives even her supporter a cause for concern.  Can a person who doesn’t have the capability to control their faculties be expected to perform their duties in a powerful position that requires acute thinking skills.

Canada Provides $23 Million to Islamic Groups

blank

Source: torontosun.com

MP Iqra Khalid announced that the Trudeau government has invested $23 million into its multiculturalism program.  Two of the recipients are The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) and Islamic Relief.  Both of these organizations have affiliations to radical Islam groups.  Khalid has been an outspoken advocate of the multiculturalism program.  She made this announcement in front of a small group of mostly Muslims with little fanfare.  There was no main stream media in attendance.  It is odd that Trudeau as well as Khalid would not want this achievement to be made public.

The NCCM is a former branch of the US based CAIR.  CAIR was named in 2008 as a co-conspirator connected to the largest terror funding trial in US history.  NCCM denies their links to CAIR.  Islamic Relief is a worldwide charity that has been accused of links to Islamist extremism by the Middle East Forum, Israel and the UAE.

Some in the Canadian Muslim community has decried that M103 initiative (multiculturalism program) will result in the spread of jihad, polygamy, FGM and Sharia throughout Canada.

Monsanto Goes to Trial

blank

Source: sfgate.com

A groundskeeper claims that he developed terminal cancer due to exposure to the herbicide Roundup for the past 2 decades.  Dewayne Johnson was a groundskeeper for the Benicia Unified School District.

His is accusing Monsanto of hiding evidence about glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.  About 4,000 other people have made claims that Roundup made them sick and the majority of them are planning to take Monsanto to court.

Johnson’s attorney said in his opening statement that a mountain of data has been complied since 2000 showing how glyphosate can cause genetic damage that may lead to non Hodgkin lymphoma.  He alleged that Monsanto ignored that data and published information ‘ghost written’ by staffers which denied the toxicity of the chemical.

Monsanto’s attorney cites more than 800 scientific studies that show that glyphosate is safe for use and does not cause cancer.  Their defense also relies on the EPA’s decision not to impose regulations on the chemical.

The decision resulting from this case will hopefully end a long fought battle between Monsanto and farmers in the US.  Most eastern countries have already limited or banned the use of glyphosate.

How to Trade On Radex Exchange

There are several Ethereum exchanges but none like Radex.ai . If you have ever traded crypto before then you know that it can be fun and very addictive. You also have probably seen large exchanges freeze your accounts where you cannot complete a trade or they might even hold your funds hostage completely so that you can’t even move your crypto to another exchange to make a great trade there. This has happened to almost every crypto trader at some point and some just accept this as normal crypto trading. My friends at Saturn Network developed the best decentralized Exchange ever handsdown. Will The Real BernieSanders Please Stand Up!

Will The Real Berine Sanders Please Stand Up!

Oh wait, I see he is already standing… for his mugshot!

For the many that do not know, I was recently targeted by some not-so-nice people on Steemit. After being called out and flagged by the Bot “abusereports” for identifying what I suspected was something shady going on, it didn’t take me long to figure out the charade. A “charade” for those that use English as a second language here on Steemit is defined as “an absurd pretense intended to create a pleasant or respectable appearance.” In other words, a “hoax, farce, or masquarade.”

What I also learned is that all these accounts that were downvoting me – they are all the same person, aka berniesanders (there may even be more!). After being publicy called “retarded” and threatend on the Steemit.chat site (by Steemit Witness nextgencrypto, aslo aka berniesanders), I just resigned myself to the fact that bullies will be bullies (assholes) and until they get their ass kicked on the playground, the playground is not a very fun place to be. So I decided just to do what any winner does… pick up my earnings and go home.

He also threatened to “bury me so deep, nobody would see my posts.” In other words, his intent was to make my account worthless. He (they) might be able to prevent me from earning anything else here, but he cannot take away all that I have already earned. So I am in the process of powering down. This is definitely not the playground I want to be on now. Ithas become a stacked deck of cards favoring those with all the capital, and stringing along all the minnows to prop up the pool of money that they drain constantly. (Learn about Steemit inflation and how it is distributed.)

When you seemingly get flagged into oblivion and all your posts and comments become hidden, they really don’t become hidden, just less visible. Anyone can simply click on that “dimmed” comment to read it. And the funny thing is since all this has happened, I have actually gained about 18 new followers! I’ve also noticed that a few more folks have joined the fight against Flagging Abuse, which has become the new culture of Steemit. It didn’t start with me though, trust me. Sanders and company have been doing this for some time, it’s just that now it is beginning to affect Steemit’s reputation like a virus. You might ask… “Why don’t the other whales step in?” Ahh… and I say “Why would they want to screw around now and mess up their own income streams?”

aka berniesanders.png

One vocal supporter of Steemit even offered up all this information he found out about the real person behind the phony berniesanders:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@xochicotta/berniesanders-nextgencrypto-engagement-etc-aka-justin-bay-salmeron-all-info-is-public#@retiredinsamar/re-xochicotta-berniesanders-nextgencrypto-engagement-etc-aka-justin-bay-salmeron-all-info-is-public-20180708t210854732z

Take your time, read it, and enlighten yourself. I say this guy has not gotten away from his criminal ways and maybe needs all the money he pilfers from Steemit to pay his legal fees. I’d also say he looks pretty good dressed in orange!

And to those who love Steemit for what it should be and not for what it has become, you should all take a stand against this scammy and abusive behavior… because if nobody does anything, there may not be much of a Steemit in the future to talk about. And as long as I still have some SP, I might as well stick around and get flagged some more.

Oh and by the way – FYI, the tags “Scams” and “Abuse” have both recently disappeared from the Steemit tag list! Coincidence?

Freeze of ACA Payments

Source: fortune.com

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 22: U.S. President Donald Trump listens to Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service, during a Women in Healthcare panel in the Roosevelt Room at the White House March 22, 2017 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Mark Wilson/Getty Images)

The US agency that administers obamacare is freezing payments to insurers.  These are payment which were implemented to compensation plans that have sicker patients.

The agency which has authority to issue payment for this risk adjustment is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  The CMS stated last Saturday that the February action by the trial court in New Mexico prevents CMS from making further collections or payments under the risk adjustment program until the litigation is resolved.

This has the insurers up in arms.  The insurers are already stating that this action will surely increase premiums to all health insurance policy holders.

As if the premiums were not already unaffordable.  This action maybe the the straw that does away with the ACA.  The ACA since its inception has been a losing proposition.  You may recall that Pelosi told the senators that they would have to pass the law in order to read it.  It was unconscionable for law maker to agree and pass the law without know what was contained in the bill.

When it comes to the insurers, I sincerely hope they are not looking for any public sympathy as they were the architects behind the bill.

Staying Cool

blank

blank

Source: loveandfoodforeva.com

The heat level where I live is unbearable.  I have a good supply of popsicles but I heard of this cool treat that looks more refreshing.  I am not familiar with some of the ingredients but there is an Asian Market that is very close.

I was able to find most of the ingredients except the ube ice cream so I substituted it with a rainbow sherbet.  Not sure what ube tastes like but it is a sweet yam, so now I will be on the look out for it as I would like to know what it takes like.

Here’s the recipe but once you get the ingredients it really needs no instructions on how to put it together.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup sweet beans

1/2 cup sweet palm fruit

1/2 cup coconut gelatin (nata de coco)

1/2 cup shredded young coconut

1/2 cup jackfruit

1/4 cup prepared ube

8 cups shaved or crushed ice

1 can evaporated milk

1 quart mango ice cream

1 quart ube ice cream

1/4 cup crispy rice cereal

DIRECTIONS

Start with 4 tall glasses. In each glass add 2 Tablespoons each of the following: sweet beans, sweet palm fruit, nata de coco, shredded young coconut, and jackfruit. Then add 1 Tablespoon of prepared ube to each glass.

Fill each glass to the top with about 2 cups of shaved ice, then top with 3-4 Tablespoons of evaporated milk.

Onto the top of each glass, add one scoop each of mango ice cream and ube ice cream. Top with 1 Tablespoon of crispy rice cereal.

Honestly it was good but they best thing about it was it was cold.

While I was out, I picked up supplies for my old stand by.  Hawaiian shaved ice.  When I lived in Hawaii I found this place called Matsumoto’s and they are famous for their shaved ice.

Source: matsumotoshavedice.com

I bought a ice shaving machine many years ago and it still works.  While I was at the Asian store, they had the red azuki beans.  For the syrup, I use Koolaid but when I add the water I make it real sweet so don’t use the directions on the packet.

They way they make it is to put in a scoop of the azuki beans with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Cover it well with a mound of shaved ice.  Drizzle the Koolaid concentrate over the ice.

Stay cool and enjoy the treats.

And yet again another selection for a new week!… I have nothing else to add except that dropping prices in cryptos have been really bad…this not only makes post earnings lower but it also increases the ratio of what is being paid in STEEM instead of SBD, hence why the distribution was so little time, well I hope you enjoy the post and cryptos start rising in value again ?

My Very Own Beachfront Golf Driving Range…

My Very Own Personal Beachfront Golf Driving Range… that I cannot use. ?

As many of my Blog readers know, we shipped our entire household to the Philippines when we retired. Golf clubs included. Because we live on the island of Samar, and the closest golf course to us would be in Tacloban, Leyte, some 3 1/2 hours away, I have not had much of any opportunity to do any golfing. None!
Clubhouse-of-San-Juanico-Park-Golf-&-Country-Club.jpg
The Golf Course Clubhouse at Tacloban, Leyte, PhilippinesAlong with my clubs, I also brought along a couple dozen golf balls. One day when the wife went to town and I had nothing to do, I thought I would take the opportunity to get my golf swing back in shape. So I grabbed a few clubs and took my bag of balls down to the seawall. The seawall in our village is just about 100 meters from my doorstep so I thought I could just sneak down there and whack a few balls out onto the sands during the low tide. One thing is for certain in the Philippines – you cannot sneak around anywhere without somebody noticing you, especially kids. A foreigner with several golf clubs in hand carrying a bag of golf balls down any street is going to garner many curious onlookers.

Anyway, in the time it took me to walk down to the seawall (about 60 seconds), I had about 5 curious kids following me. Not one of them speaks English so I didn’t even bother to discuss my intent with them. I reached the seawall at low tide and the exposed sands were visible for at least several hundred yards. Perfect! I could simply hit a couple dozen balls and then walk out and retrieve them. And I had my own built-in gallery of spectators!

Hermit Crab.JPG

The beach sands at our village extend for many meters at low tide.As I prepared to hit my first ball, I could hear the kids concocting something. I figured they were going to “fetch” my balls after I hit them. As it turned out, the challeng was on to see who could collect the most balls. At least that is what I surmised. I know just enough of the local dialect to understand when some friendly wagering is going on! I approached my first ball on the tee (golf lingo), but not before warning the kids repeatedly to stay well clear of me and my swing, and to just stay put until I was finished. I proceeded to drive my first shot (8 iron) about 150 yards. Not before my shot even hit the sand were the kids off and running to snag that first ball. After all 5 of the kids reached the site of the my first drive, they just stood there and waited. I repeatedly motioned for them to clear out but they just sorta camped out there waiting for me to hit another ball! They had already sprinted over 100 yards once, they were certainly not going to do that again. It was much easier to just wait for the balls to come to them. Urghhh. I realized at that moment that this entire idea was a big waste of my time, so I gathered up my balls and clubs and walked back to the house. I just couldn’t dangerously be launching golf balls into a group of young kids waiting to pick them up for me. It was just not safe.

I mean… could you see me screaming “FORE” after each stroke? It would have done absolutely no good when they don’t understand English!

headslap.jpegAnd would someone please shoot me for thinking that I could get away with this on a “school day!”

Have You Ever Been to Manila? – There is so much to explore.

Have You Ever Been to Manila? – There is so much to explore.

Manila.jpeg

Visit Manila.

Manila may be one of the more easily misunderstood capitals in the world where ultra modern meets nostalgia. Some might learn that it’s in close proximity to the gorgeous island getaways of the Philippines, and be surprised to learn that it’s a big city. Others might be aware of its reputation for casino resorts and be surprised to learn that there are plenty of attractions that have nothing to do with casinos at all. And perhaps most surprising of all to a lot of prospective visitors is this fascinating bit of trivia: Manila is the most densely populated city in the world, with the population per square mile dwarfing that of say, New York or Tokyo.

All in all it makes for a unique destination and a place you’ll remember long after you visit. More specifically however, these are some of the things you may want to see and do there.

See Fort Santiago.

FortSantiago_1.jpgYou need not research Manila long before you’ll come across recommendations that you visit Intramuros. This is essentially an old walled city within the city, left over from Spanish colonization. The whole area is worth exploring if you have a morning or an afternoon free, but if you have to limit your sightseeing, Fort Santiago is the main attraction. With its own walls, gardens, statues, and well-preserved spaces, the fort is something like an indoor/outdoor monument to a previous age.

Try The Street Food.

Manila has legendary street food! It’s a little bit of an adventurous selection for a lot of foreigners (you’ll eat some things you never dreamed of trying before), but it’s all part of the culture. Be sure to try the fish balls, the palabok noodle dishes, and the halo-halo (which is actually just ice cream!).
Play At City Of Dreams

The City Of Dreams resort is a nice reminder that there’s still value in brick-and-mortar casinos. At this point, dozens if not hundreds of brand new casinos launch to the internet each and every year, and now reach mobile platforms as well. There’s no need to visit a real life casino. But at City Of Dreams you’ll find out just how far atmosphere can go. It’s a stunning complex with all kinds of attractions, and the casino floor is as inviting as any could be. Move over Las Vegas!

Visit Long Bar.

LongBar_1.jpgManila may be better known for nightlife, but this more casual bar is well worth your attention. It’s a classy, well-stocked cocktail bar in the lobby of the Raffles Makati, and certainly among the best places in town to grab a drink, meet up with a friend, etc. Cocktails are the main draw but you’ll find high-end comfort food as well.

Dine in Binondo.

Binondo is the name of Manila’s Chinatown, and once you learn about its history you won’t be able to resist going. This Chinatown was established at the end of the 16th century, making it the oldest in the world. It’s an incredible place to explore and, naturally, to find great food.

Visit The National Museum.

PlanetariumManila_1.jpg
The National Museum of the Philippines is a major draw in Manila, particularly for tourists passing through. It’s a very large museum with sections for archaeology, natural history, and fine art (much of which has Spanish or East Asian influence). However, the biggest reason to visit might be the reopened National Planetarium, which has been updated with new technology and is now capable of putting on a dazzling display for visitors. Then when you are done in Manila, you will need a couple more months to explore the rest of the Philippines and its 7,106 other islands. And then it will be time to hit the beaches!

2 Ways To Buy Ethereum Crypto Currency Fast

This article will feature everything you need to know to buy Etheruem Crypto Currency Fast Including A Video Walk through To Create An Ethereum Wallet In Under 1 Minute.

There are 2 ways that people can get involved with Crypto Currency. Many people look at Bitcoin and think wow I don’t have $10,000 to buy a bitcoin. And they might look for other popular large scale cryptocurrencies that are main stream with liquidity that are not so expensive. Though you do not have to buy a whole BTC, ETH or LTC to get started many people will want to own a whole coin when getting started. Ethereum has been hovering around $500 USD for a while now and can be a great alternative to Bitcoin. Litecoin will be coming in another article where we dive into how to buy litecoin also. For this article let us focus on ETH the trading symbol for Ethereum and how would you buy ETH when you are just getting started in crypto currency.

Your First Road Block Into Crypto Currency Is Likely Going To Be Converting Your Standard Currency Into Digital Currency.

If you have USD or EURO this process is super easy. Other currencies can be exchanged also and each country generally will have a way to exchange their fiat or government issued currency to digital currency. Many people are in the USA or EURO zone and the first option we will share will make it super easy for you to get your hands on some Ethereum! There are a few steps that you first will need to take in order to buy ETH.

  1. You need a debit or credit card
  2. You need an Ethereum Wallet Address
  3. You need a reliable trusted place to buy Authentic Ethereum Tokens.

The good news you have found the best guide online that will help you buy Ethereum Coins fast.

We will assume you have some cash in the bank and a debit or credit card you can use to make the purchases. Next you will need an Ethereum wallet address. We look at the address as similar to a bank account number or checking account number. Only you should have access to the passwords called “Keys” to this account. You can share the address with people as they can deposit ETH into your account but you should be the only one to take it out or send it out of your account. You Ethereum wallet address can be created for free and can be created in under 1 minute. You can watch our video to see how you can create a wallet Address using https://myetherwallet.com

Now that you have create an Ethereum Wallet Address you can buy Ethereum easily and have it deposited to your wallet address.

Below you can use Changelly to buy ETH fast and have it deposited right into your wallet.

If you have no idea about wallets and don’t feel really comfy getting a wallet but still really really want to buy some Ethereum there is still an option that might work for you.

Many of my friends get started with crypto using Coinbase. Getting started is pretty simple and they handle the wallets for you. The downside is that you do not control your wallets in the way that you do when you create them yourself. So you can’t use your Coinbase Etheruem wallet address to receive other Ethereum based crypto currencies! This is sad but the way it is for now. If you are buying Ethereum to understand how it works so that you can then buy some Stish we also have an older video that can show you how make your wallet display Stish.

Hot? How About a Swim

blank

Source: popsci.com

Today we hit a record high where I live.  In fact, as I write this, it is still in the triple digits.  I could use a little cooling dip in a pool.  If you are suffering from the heat and are seeking some relief, you may want to be advised of some stats regarding pool water.

According to studies done by the CDC, you are more likely to get sick from pathogens in pool water than a natural body of water.  Their report discovered that some pathogens have become resistance to chlorine and it is these pathogens which have given a rise in the reported cases of water borne infections.  Based on the study, you are almost 3.5 times more likely to get infected in treated water than a natural source.

They found that the source of most of these pathogens was human poop.  The pathogen is introduced into the water from an infected person, from there anyone whom either inadvertently drinks the water or inhales some of the water mist.

The main pathogen found was Cryptosporidium, this is a parasite that lives in animal intestines and spreads by shedding itself from feces into water sources.  Next was Norovirus which is spread through vomit and feces.  As you can see the main factor of transmission is poop.

Chlorine can control many pathogens but Cryptosporidium can survive in chlorinated water for more than a week.

The most likely place for outbreaks were from hotel pools and it was even more likely from hotel hot tubs or spas.  The heated water is more conducive for the growth of pathogens.  Hotels were followed by public pools.

No Honor Among Thieves

Source: thedailycoin.org

Before I begin, I must state that I found nothing to verify if Rep. Jim Jordan is culpable for the alleged failure to report the abuse of Ohio State athletes by Dr. Richard Strauss.

Rod Rosenstein was lambasted by Jim Jordan during the House Judiciary Committee hearing.  Jordan was pressing Rosenstein on turning over political sensitive documents from the Mueller investigation, Rosenstein refused.

Source: youtube.com

It was obvious that Rosenstein was upset by the exchange.  Now a former Ohio State wrestler comes forth to reopen the accusations against Jordan.  Allegedly Jordan who was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1986 to 1994, was privy to the abusive crimes perpetrated on athletes by Strauss.  Strauss was the team’s physician from the mid 1970s to the late 1990s.

Jordan has denies the accusations and he contends that he had no knowledge of the abuse to the students.

The timing of this is too coincidental to ignore, it is apparent that Rosenstein’s hand was involved in this.  He is pulling out all the stops to sway the committee’s opinion as he must be aware that he is being exposed.  Regarding the title of this post, although it is not evident that Jordan is guilty, there is compelling statements from 3 former wrestlers that point to his complicity.  It is becoming evident that as more politicians get fingered, they have no compulsion to keep secrets if they believe selling others out might save their own skins.  If one plays in the swamp, they will get dirty.

Good Bye Israel

blank

Source: bigleaguepolitics.com

Sources within the Broward County sheriff’s office revealed that Scott Israel is set to be removed from his position next week.  Israel is being removed for criminal issues uncovered by an investigation conducted by the Florida governor’s office.

The source stated that the FBI is aware of the criminal activities Israel is being charged with.  Israel has been under heavy criticism for his mishandling of the Parkland school shooting but this is not the only reason he is being removed.  Regarding the shooting, it was discovered that officers were dispatched to the shooter’s residence 45 times prior to the shooting and the office was aware of the potential danger but failed to act.  It should also be noted that the FBI was also aware of this shooter prior to the shooting and failed to act.

One of the rumors about Israel that have surfaced since the shooting that is most disturbing is that Israel’s son was involved in assaulting a student at the high school (where the shooting occurred) in an act of bullying.  This incident was not related to the shooting.  The sheriff’s office actively worked to keep the incident quiet.  The shooter, Cruz, revealed in video that he felt bullied and this was what lead him to carry out the massacre.

Since the shooting incident, it has been coming to the public’s attention that this was far from a random act.  The school’s problems have been cultivating for some time.  It has not yet been revealed  if the fault lie with the school’s administration, the sheriff’s department or the city.  It is highly probably that all were at least partly to blame in allowing this to happen.  It is obvious that the sheriff’s office along with the FBI failed to perform their respective duties by turning a blind eye to many warning signs from the shooter.

US Dollar Strength

blank

Source: silverdoctors.com

The US Dollar broke through resistance and now is currently at 94.4.  This is a measure of the strength of the dollar relative to the overall currency market.

Some background on the effect a strong or weak dollar has on trade and the pricing of goods.  A strong dollar portends that another countries currency is weaker against the dollar so products which are import from that country will be cheaper because they are priced in the foreign currency.  A weaker dollar will do the opposite and the import will be more expensive in terms of the dollar.  This is not addressing any effects a tariff will have on the price.

Most would be of the opinion that a strong dollar is good and in some respects it is.  The bad thing about a strong dollar is when the US exporters try to sell their products these will be more expensive for the foreign country and either the foreign country will purchase a substitute product from other country or purchase less.  The loss or lessening of sales will affect the balance of trade between the countries.

Another factor which is not so apparent is the feds on going plan to reduce their balance sheet.  This plan is to reverse the QEs which expanded the fed’s balance sheet from about $900 billion in 2008 to about $4.5 trillion today.  The shrinking of the balance sheet is taking about $30 billion out of the economy per month.  At the same time, the ECB is pumping about 30 billion euros per month into their economy.

The feds have been raising the interest rates from 2016 albeit at a snail’s pace.  The ECB still has negative rates.  The end result is the dollar strengthening and signs of deflation are beginning to rise.  The signs can be seen in the foreign markets.

blank

Source: silverdoctors.com

Brazil’s market is down 20%, South Africa is down 17% and Turkey is down 32%.  The Asian markets are also experiencing the effects.  This effect is due to the amount of US dollars still held in the global markets.  There is over $9 trillion in debt held globally and about $6 trillion of this is held by emerging market countries.

This might be the reason why countries are working to repatriate their gold and reduce their reliance on the USD.  If this trend does not reverse, you can expect that the US (fiat) dollars will soon be flooding back to the American shores.

Giant Hogweed

blank

Source: wired.com

During the end of June through the first week of July, this plant may show up in your garden.  It is the giant hogweed, you will definitely have no problem identifying it as it can grow up to 15 feet tall.

Though the plant is mainly found on the eastern coastal states it is very prolific.  The plant was believed to originate in New York, from there it spread to neighboring Pennsylvania, Ontario and Michigan.  Later it was discovered in Ohio and most recently it was found in Virginia.  It has been found in over a dozen states to date.

The plant is invasive, it produces up to 120,000 winged seeds per plant.  Since these seeds have psuedo wing structures, they can be carried on the wind as well as any waterway.

The sap of the plant is highly toxic, it can cause third degree burns to ones whom get the sap on their skin.  If the sap gets into the eyes, it can cause blindness.  If you are unfortunate enough to get the sap on yourself, wash the area immediately and limit you exposure to sunlight until it is thorough removed.  The sap limits the skin’s ability to filter out the harmful UV rays resulting in burns to the affected area.

Virginia has listed the plant as a tier 1 noxious weed, meaning it’s considered a major threat to the surrounding environment.

Yield Curve Inversion

blank

Source: investopedia.com

The inversion of the yield curve has preceded most recessions.  This is the reason trend forecasters use it as an indicator of the future when applied to business activity.  It has a valid basis when one considers the underlying factors that are used to evaluate the price of bonds.

A yield curve is the relationship between the cost to purchase a bond to the amount an investor will receive over the term of the bond.  A bond is a financial instrument a company, a business entity or a country floats to secure a source of funding to expand or maintain the company or the country.  The investor having the desire to receive a profit for their investment will analyse the company’s financial statements to assess the odds of getting this profit.  Note that this is a simple explanation as the prudent investor will also analyse other data such as the market to estimate the future demand for the company’s product as well as the company’s competitors.  Assuming that all looks well financially, the investor will expect that the bond price will increase.

The price of the longer term bonds normally should be higher than the shorter term bonds.  This is based on the idea of the time value of money.  A dollar today theoretically should be more valuable than a dollar tomorrow because if one were to  invest today’s dollar, tomorrow they should have more than a dollar (they will gain interest).  Thus if one commits their (today) dollar for a longer term, they should expect to receive a higher yield.

When the yield curve inverts, this is saying that investors believe that loaning money to a company for a longer period will result in getting a smaller return.  This portends that in the future, the company will be a riskier investment than it is currently.  In other words, the trend for companies as well as the economy is downward, hence a recession.

When one takes into account the huge amount of debt worldwide, it makes the chance for a recession more probably.  Debt acts as draw on net income or in a country’s case, GNP / GDP.  The debt instrument requires that interest is paid on the principal, this interest has no economic gain associated with it to the borrowing entity, meaning it is a pure expense.  The money (principal) borrowed will be used to say buy a new asset that will produce a product which will be sold and return a profit, this is not true of the interest due on the debt.  As the debt increases, the debt service also increases resulting in an addition burden on the entity’s net income / profits.  The entity has the option to increase their prices to the consumer or in the case of a country, increasing its citizen’s taxes.  Doing this will likely reduce the demand for their product.  This results in lowering the overall value of the entity and possibly leading to bankruptcy.

How Not to Shop for Antiques.

Have you ever bought something you really didn’t want?

Ming dynasty bowl.jpeg

A man wanders into a small antique shop. Mostly it’s cluttered with knick-knacks and junk. On the floor, however, he notices what looks like an ancient Chinese bowl. On closer inspection it turns out to be a priceless relic from the Ming dynasty whose value is beyond calculating. It is worth everything else in the store put together.
The owner clearly has no idea about the value of this possession, because it’s filled with milk and the cat’s drinking out of it. The man sees an opportunity for the deal of a lifetime. He cleverly constructs a method to obtain the artifact for a fraction of its worth.
“That’s an extraordinary cat you have,” he says to the owner. “How much would you sell her for?”
“Oh, the cat’s not really for sale,” said the owner. “She keeps the store free of mice.”
“I really must have her,” the man countered. “Tell you what…
I’ll give you a hundred dollars for her.”
“She’s not really worth it,” laughed the owner, “but if you want her that badly, she’s yours.”
“I need something to feed her from as well,” continued the man. “Let me throw in another ten dollars for that saucer she’s drinking out of.”
“Oh, I could never do that. That saucer is actually an ancient Chinese vase from the Ming dynasty. It is my prized possession, whose worth is beyond calculation.
Funny thing though, since we’ve had it, I’ve sold seventeen cats.”

Judge Rules Electric Shock Punishment to Continue

blank

Source: thefreethoughtproject.com

Family court judge Katherine Field denied a motion to end the use of electric shock on disable students.  In her decision she stated “(The state) failed to demonstrate that there is now a professional consensus that the Level III aversive treatment RC does not conform to the accepted standard of care for treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities”.

It is understood that the law requires certain standards are met and the judge is responsible for maintaining that a case meets this criteria but does the law preclude the judge for applying his or her common sense.  The written law does allow for a court to interpret the law in a strict or a loose construction.  This provides the court latitude so it may adapt the law to the change in society.  This allowance in some cases aids the court to better apply the punishment to fit the crime.  Understanding that when the law enacted the world had a different set of social tenets and the law was meant to mete out justice based on the current zeitgeist.

The ruling is in respects to the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center (JRC) which is a special needs day and residential school.  A former employee, Greg Miller taught at this facility from 2003 through 2006.  He was responsible for bringing the school’s use of shock treatment to light.  He claimed that the students were subjected to electric shocks for very minor infractions like speaking without permission.  Due to the school’s liberal use of shocking the students, he left his position.  The school calls the punishment ‘aversive treatment’.

To allow a disabled person to be subjected to electrical shocks may be satisfying for the administer but this type of treatment has shown no verifiable evidence of altering or correcting the aberrant behavior.  For this judge to allow for its continuance is morally questionable.  It seems that since the aversive treatment bears no effective results one would think the ruling should be to put an end to it’s use.

Perhaps the judge should be administered some aversive treatment to assist her mental thought process.

Looking For a Hit on the Metals

blank

Source: kitco.com

The markets are closed on Wednesday for the Fourth and much of this week people will not be active in the markets.  This is the time when the manipulators get the biggest bang for their buck.  Exactly why I am expecting the metal prices to sustain a major hit.

Their modus operandi is to hit the market with a large amount of shorts when the trading is thin.  We are already going into this week with weak prices.  The support levels have been breached and the opportunity to push the price even lower is too much of a good thing to be passed up.  The lower they can push the price, the cheaper they can buy back the shorts to cover their position.

Many of us are wondering where the bottom is.  The bottom is as low as they can manipulate it to.  Over the past few years, they have been painting the OI figures by using EFPs.  This makes the OI look better but the short contracts are still open but they have been shifted to the London market.  These contracts (theoretically) still need to be covered.  I say theoretically because when the market goes ‘no offer’ they will likely void these contracts.

The terms of trading on the COMEX say that they don’t have to delivery to the short contract holder physical metal but it is the COMEX’s option to settle in fiat.  The COMEX was established to provide people a way to own metals, back in 1933 the public was limited to owing only 5 ozs of gold.  With the COMEX people could own more than the limited amount.

Today it is rumored that the COMEX has very little physical metals and most of the stated metal is in paper contracts.  When short contract holder demand physical delivery en masse, the price will go ‘no offer’ and it will mark the end of the COMEX.

They want the price as low as they can get it primarily so they can buy back the enormous amount of short contract they have issued.  If they don’t and the price of metals rise it will certainly end in major losses and the likely demise of many of the commercials.

STISHit REBRANDING

blank

Am I too late to give suggestions for rebranding?

I hope not . . . bc here I go> as a NEWBIE on STISHit

A perspective as a new person.

I came to STISHit through someone who landed on my post who was on automatic black list and was blocked out on Steemit. Did I mention this was my post! Needless to say, this was a trigger and made me very angry because when I was new a group of whales flagged me. Instead of doing what most people did I stood up to them and got in further trouble. Any sane person would of given up or retreated > but . . . I didn’t.

OiyVey > Why all this verbage? . . .

It’s because I came here from someone who didn’t deserve

to be treated this way on Steemit (Retired in Samar.)

At first thought this was a place for discouraged, bullied and displaced Steemians, yet, when I came here it was different and I too was befuddled.

First, I thought STISHit was a scam, a joke and it was confusing . . . the name, didn’t help. What made me stay was > I didn’t have to use my Steemit keys and people seemed genuine on STISHit. The only problem is you need to REBRAND your id with what it will do for Steemians, the World, Family Friends and Co-Workers. You have to keep it simple as possible.

How much is STISH? How can they get money from content (words, pictures, art and video) that is theirs. Delegate more tutorial from Stishians and let them know they get paid for these tutorials. Let them know there’s a community here to support bloggers and on and on.

My friend won’t . . . NO … refuses to check this place out because he thinks it is a phishing scam. He is a blogger who uses his own work/orignal and a content person. Someone who comments and would be succesful on STISHit. Enjar believes the Steemian whales who put the fear in Steemians.

Oh my, the whale who came on my post was a whale bot. It came here in February 2018 and makes an average of $80.00 a day for automaticaly going after minnows. “Eat minnows and get paid for it.”

This is a friend I invited to Steemit a year ago.

Problems I see > a url that is different from STISHit’s name. If you are a 3rd party to Steemit why doesn’t it show up on Steemit’s posts? STISH needs to be seen and then the it, let people figure out later the name has a cuss word in it. Repeat STISH as many times as possible. STISH is money/cryptocurrency that is paid to bloggers. Stishians is a community that supports one another and has 0% tolerance for scammers, thieves of intellual property and bullies. An outline would be helpful for the video, audio and visual artists. Blah, blah, blaaaah … you can go on.

A gambit of questions pop up in the new person’s mental hopper. I can’t answer them but . . . I’m sure the ones that have been on STISHit a long time could.

Double Standard

blank

Source: dailymail.co.uk

It is curious why those whom so vehemently protest against guns surround themselves with gun toting security.  Hogg the supposed survivor of the Parkland shooting, was in NY to promote his book.  He is accompanied by a security detail.

blank

Source: theamericanmirror.com

This is not to place any emphasis on him as he is insignificant, but they all start out this way.  They push an agenda funded by likes of Soros that incite people.  Primarily, the agenda is to create a division.  The problem is they stand on a principle that has little to no basis.

In this case, starting with the shooting.  Reports are surfacing that the Hogg was not even at the school at the time of the shooting.  He heard about it and went home to get his camera so he could document the incident.  To label him a survivor is stretching the truth, a better term would be a profiteer.

He then promotes derision about guns, when the real issue is the failings of law enforcement.  It has come to light that Cruz posted on social media his plans to commit the shooting and these were reported to the authorities.  The authorities made no attempt to investigate the threats.  This seems clear that a reasonable person would address the failure of the authorities.  But obviously, it is more profitable to attack the gun owners.

The double standard that they flaunt in the public’s face.  They staunchly push their agenda to get guns banned but they employ armed security guards.  Reasonably, if they actually believed in the hype they are pushing on the public, they would not be employing hired guns.

Realities and Perceptions – Are They Synonymous?

I just finished reading a post on sub/reddit titled What is exactly wrong with locals here?” and I must admit, based upon the thread comments, the OP of this article really struck a chord – with some readers that agreed with him and others who adamantly defended against everything he said. Below I have inserted his reddit post verbatim as a testament that all expats do not see living in the Philippines in the same light.

For many expats here, it has become like….

blank

I’ll be the first to agree that much of the online propaganda which one finds about the Philippines has been sensationalized to the point that makes living in the Philippines very appealing.”  But everyone must realize that this country is still “third-world-ish” in many ways. Those who wish to paint the Philippines in the brightest of colors will be more politically correct and tend to use the description “Developing Country.”

Check out the post:

“Ever since I moved here about a year ago, I thought it’d be a blast. I thought I would make new friends, hit up some beaches, and have an all around great time. The stuff I hear about the Philippines is usually legendary, but now that I have lived and experienced what it is like to be an expat here, I have to say this place is overrated. My gripes are mostly regarding the people…

People here don’t mind their business. I’m an introvert so when I leave my building, the stares and gossiping start getting to me. These people don’t even know me and little do they know that I can actually understand some of what they are saying. I can understand being a relatively new resident, but if I have lived at the same spot for a few months or longer, I still don’t understand why these idiots continue to stare or harass me. Or if I am passing through a security checkpoint, guards shit talking and cackling. Too many people ask me how much I make or how much my rent is or whether I am here for business. It’s none of their fucking business…

Fake friendliness People constantly trying to be your friend and working some angle in order to get information and shake you down for money and then acting standoff-ish when you decline. It’s a scamming culture so they use the women or they try to turn on the charm waaay up to get to your pocket

Weird about social norms I have to mind what I say and what I do here bc with the amount of foreigners getting killed lately. People here don’t really respect human life. You need to coax them and smooth their brittle egos and ingratiate yourself bc of their inferiority complex.

I really don’t know what else I can say. The people here are fake as fuck and not hospitable. I wish they’d leave me the fuck alone. TBH, it’s my fault for not doing more research on this country. I just get a bad vibe from them overall. The reason you don’t hear too much about it is bc most people are out working long hours or chasing pinays…which might be the only redeeming thing about PH (the girls).

I can deal with the rundown 3rd world drab surroundings, but the people really make living here hell on earth.”

———————————————– End of Post ————————————————————

There are certain points within his post that I can agree with, especially from his introverted perspective;

  • Privacy – There is very little privacy in the Philippines. Most people and families live a somewhat communal lifestyle, and in very cramped conditions as compared to more western-styled accommodations. The only real privacy one will enjoy here is to remain locked-up in a cave somewhere (and close the curtains!). More outgoing people tend not to feel this way. Personally, I am not an introvert but I do cherish my privacy, and it does come at a premium. Outdoors, I am always shooing children (and the occasional adult) away from peering through our gate into our compound. Yes, it happens more often than you think and it is more out of curiosity (and maybe boredom) than anything else.
  • Minding One’s Own Business – There is a lot of truth to this. I am constantly asked about things that normal folks would be considered personal. For example, most expats experience the same questions over and over and over… “Where are you from? Are you married? Do you have a gf? How many children do you have?” And sometimes the questions ca be even more prying such as “Where do you live” or “How much money do you make?” In all honesty, the routine does get old after a while. And then there is the “tsismis” or gossip. The rumor mill runs 24/7 in this country and never shuts down. When you think about it, when people have nothing better to do (unemployment is high), they surmise, they assume, and they talk… allot!
  • Staring – This comes with the territory. Most all western expats are NOT brown-skinned and we stick out like a rotten mango. Of course we are going to generate stares, mostly out of curiosity. Whenever I do anything outside my home’s compound, onlookers will gather. Even when I might be trimming the grass with my electric string trimmer, folks will occasionally stand around just to watch the  “foreigner” work. It can be annoying at times. And if I ever decide to walk down to the beach or into the jungle, there will always be kids following me, just because they have nothing better to do I suppose. We are the main attraction (the Rock Star) when living there.
  • Fake Friendliness – I’m not sure how to comment on this. While the Filipino people are generally warm and friendly natured people, there are some that can appear to be overly friendly and that should raise some flags. Those few people who seem to be overly friendly usually possess an ulterior motive… which equates to money. I’ll leave the rest of this alone as it is a very subjective observation.
  • Social Norms – As a westerner, I do acknowledge huge cultural differences, with some Filipino norms bordering on weird. As a devoutly religious society, there seems to be conflicting understandings of faith and fear. On one hand, superstition is based on the ignorant faith of an object having magical powers. Another word for superstition is “idolatry.”  The Bible does not support the idea of things occurring by chance, but nothing is done outside of God’s sovereign control. Either He causes or allows everything in keeping with His divine plan (Acts 4:28; Ephesians 1:10).  In summary, Filipinos tend to allow their fear of myths and the supernatural to override their faith. As a raised (non-practicing) Catholic myself, I find it all rather ignorant.
Another social norm is one that can be considered a hinderance to Filipino progress: That is the tendency to NOT speak out about civil injustices or something that might be wrong. Filipinos live by the mantra of “bahala na” which translates to “Whatever will be will be” or “It is what it is.” It doesn’t seem to bother anyone when someone cuts in line, or cuts them off when driving. Filipinos are experts in the self-administration of “fatalism” and “crab mentality,” both strong negative traits that are hugely responsible for the lack of social and economic progress which continues to plague the country. From destruction of natural resources and environmental negligence and pollution of the very ocean that feeds the masses, to non-education and alcoholism and drug abuse. And let’s not forget noise pollution! The Filipino people have this propensity to surrender their future to a perceived fate.  There is also much discrimination and separation of the classes that permeate societal behavior here.
These norms are way out of kilter with accepted norms of the western world, and it is hard for many expats to accept without a whisper of a complaint. Some expats simply escape it all by hiding behind the “When in Rome…” catchphrase while others complain way too much.
  • Respect for Others – Discussion on this topic can go from one extreme to the next. Typically speaking though, there seems to be a general disregard for safety and security of others. Assassinations and killings of people for such simple justifications (could be simple revenge or assassin for hire) can build a strong argument for such uncaring traits among Filipino people. When you disrespect, offend or publicly embarrass someone here, they will have the last word… so to speak. From pissing people off to seriously disrupting someone’s financial situation… it can all be cause for termination, unfortunately. What goes around here comes around here… especially if one acts like a jerk. Life here can be cheap as they say.

blank

Barangay Rubbish Collection – Sometimes!

The Philippines definitely has some good things going. Beautiful lush tropical island scenery, great beaches, good food (a much disputed topic for later), and in general… a party atmosphere. The people are warm and friendly and family closeness is one of their greatest attributes. The cost of living is low and the weather is… well, warm (at least there is no snow and ice). People are very helpful, even if a few would expect something in return. Many of the good things we enjoy here can be somewhat overshadowed by the negative, or the other way around, depending on where one hails from. After living here for some time, my personal concerns have been identified, in level of importance to me, as:

  1. Health Care
  2. Healthy Living including air quality/contaminants
  3. Safety & Security
  4. Infrastructure (emergency services, reliable power, etc.)
  5. Human Rights
  6. Privacy

… all of which many westerners take for granted anywhere else. I’m definitely no different. To those individuals who protest living in such perceived squalor, they should simply end their complaining and move away. To those who are happy living in their chosen paradise, good on them. For anyone else contemplating living in the Philippines, you mus learn to focus more on all the stuff in-between the lines when reading everything that is “legendary” about the Philippines. For me and my wife, after spending nearly 5 years here, health care has become our number one concern and we have acted accordingly (now part-timing it between Philippines and Guam). In summary (and my wife agrees with me), I like to say that the Filipino people are the most considerate-inconsiderate people in the world… only because they have not learned any better. And we will more strategically enjoy the best of both worlds from now on.

blank The Paradox of Pollution

Disclaimer: One should note there are more than subtle differences in all of the above claims based upon where one chooses to live in the Philippines, keeping in mind that Manila and Cebu tend to be more progressive minded and Provincial living is a far reach from being modern.

Pfizer VP States Gardasil is Deadly

blank

Source: startpage.com

Dr. Peter Rost is a former VP of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, Pfizer.  He has come out exposing the dangers of vaccines, in particular, gardasil which he referred to as deadly.

He stated that mandatory vaccinations are like a form of child abuse and he adamantly said that he would not vaccinate his children.  He was interviewed for a documentary ‘One More Girl’ where he said the the main objective for vaccines and pharmaceutical drugs is to keep the public in a constant state of disease.

Considering this man was a VP of a big pharma company, his views should be given more credence than just mere opinion.  He authored a book ‘The Whistleblower, Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman’.  A synopsis of the book taken from the Amazon site follows:

“A number of books critical of the pharmaceutical industry have recently been published, but none has been an expose written by a senior executive of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. The Whistleblower is at once an unmasking of how corporations take care of malcontents and a gripping story of one man’s fight to maintain his family and his sanity. Starting in 2003, the book details the illegal, even criminal business practices the author witnessed at his corporation, as well as his crusade to legalize the reimportation of drugs. It also explains how in this post-Enron world whistle-blowers can’t simply be fired, and what the author’s corporation did to coerce and silence him. A story of abattle that continues today, one which any American who takes or will take prescription drugs has a stake in,The Whistleblower is a powerful testimony.”

Canadian Manager Fired for Ousting MAGA Wearing Customer

blank

Source: zerohedge.com

After a Canadian restaurant manager ejected a patron wearing a MAGA hat, the restaurant was flooded with one star reviews from Yelp users.  The Teahouse’s manager, Darren Hodge has worked for the Vancouver restaurant for 18 months.  He approached the customer wearing the MAGA hat and told him that he wouldn’t be served if he didn’t remove the hat.  When the customer didn’t comply he was ejected from the restaurant.

The restaurant owners said that the manager was fired because his actions did not align with the company’s policy of being hospitably and inclusiveness.  His actions were contrary to their values and philosophy.

After word got out, the restaurant was stormed by pan reviews on Yelp.  Here is a sampling of the comments:

“Fired a manager for taking a stand against bigotry and white supremacy. Unbelievable!”

“wearing a MAGA hat these days is the same thing as wearing a black swazstika arm band.”

I have enjoyed the Teahouse in the past. Recently the Teahouse fired a manager for refusing to serve an American tourist who was wearing a Make America Great Again. I support that manager 100%. He was right in refusing to serve someone wearing an offensive hat that has become symbol of racism and is very offensive to Canadians.

The Canadian are probably miffed at Trump due to the recent tariffs lodged against their country.  But it could also be that the ones whom lodged their complaints may have a similar mindset to their prime minister.  I don’t exactly understand the logic that compares the MAGA hat to a NAZI armband.

You can hear the show from 8pm UK time Here

Happy Saturday everyone and welcome to my song BREATHE!
I awoke to one of the best emails ever this morning!
My little song has been chosen for BBC INTRODUCING radio show this evening here in the EAST MIDLANDS UK.

blank

For those of you unfamiliar with the BBC (you should know who they are) and the Introducing initiative, it has discovered some huge artist over the past few decades and catapulted them to the big league!

Listen On CHOON
They’re real champions for independent artists and really love REAL MUSIC! To be chosen from the thousands of uploads per week is quite astonishing for a solo minnow like myself. It’s not a guaranteed ticket to success but, it’s a mighty good start!

blank

So here’s the all new and improved studio version of ‘Breathe’ It’s a song I wrote a few weeks ago for an online song contest called ‘On Song International’ As ever in my ADD fuelled haste, I quickly created a video and sent it to them! To my delight, they loved it and immediately posted it on their YouTube channel. I’m a fan of independent musicians support and want to see it develop into a bigger animal for us all.

What inspired me to write this? well, I was thinking (I do a lot of that) about all the stupid mistakes that I’ve made in life, and wouldn’t want my children to follow in my footsteps. I gave them breath in their bodies, but I don’t need it back. they walk the footsteps that I make, just don’t follow me, take a ride upon a wing, just don’t look down on me. I never thought of myself as a poet, but reading back those words really stirred some emotive thoughts in me.
I hope you enjoy this little song, many thanks for your support.

Lyrics

Breathe the air I gave to you
just don’t give it back
sing this song I wrote for you
just don’t sing it back

Walk the footsteps that I make
just don’t follow me
take a ride upon a wing
but just don’t look down on me

Breathe the air I gave to you
just don’t give it back
sing this song I wrote for you
just don’t sing it back

Walk the footsteps that I make
just don’t follow me
take a ride upon a wing
but just don’t look down on me

A Traditional Filipino Wedding

     blankThe Veil and the Cord.

Every now and again, we get invited to a local wedding. Over the years, we’ve attended weddings that range from really simple to the really lavish. One thing I have learned is that even a poor family can throw a lavish wedding, so be fooled not.  There are an assortment of Filipino wedding traditions but a majority of them are drawn from the Catholic religion. And because approximately 80% of Filipinos are Catholic, it is customary for weddings to be held in a Catholic Church where many rituals and readings take place. Every simple Catholic ritual signifies the important values of marriage and the union of two individuals and makes the ceremony the most intriguing and sentimental part of a Filipino wedding.  Even though I was raised Catholic growing up, the rituals performed in my wedding in the Philippines some 32 years ago seemed foreign to me.

Beyond the common appearance of the wedding party such as the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the Filipino wedding includes other significant members that have been a part of the couple’s life. Filipino couples often honor these important guests with the title of “Principal Sponsor” or “Secondary Sponsor.” The number of sponsors can vary from a single couple to multiple couples. During the ceremony, sponsors customarily join the bride and groom in the prayers of blessing.

In the Filipino culture, weddings are seen as very festive events, where the entire community can come together in celebration of the couple.

Because marriage is a sacrament in the Catholic church, it is taken seriously. The couple has the support of an entire community of friends and family to help promote and keep their marriage strong.  And although the ceremony is serious business, the reception is all about having fun, with drinks flowing, food for everyone, and just a party atmosphere with plenty of dancing. After the customary “First Dance,” one of the main dances is where the bride and groom are pinned with money. If you plan on having a good time when attending a wedding reception, you will not come away disappointed. We always go to weddings prepared to have a good time and while some will celebrate into the early morning hours, these days, I usually throw in the towel long before the serious partying begins.

The Coin Ceremony (Arras).

Exactly 13 Arras, or coins, (in most cases, pesos) are presented to the altar by the coin sponsors. The Arras are then blessed for the groom to gift his bride as he promises the welfare of her and their future family. Traditionally, the promise was always made by the groom however, today’s couples are more mutually supportive than ever before. The coins are a symbol of their future children and the church becomes the witness of their vows of promise to care and love for each other. We still have our coins.

blank

The 13 Coins (in our case, pesos!)

Catholic Veil Ceremony

Through the Catholic veil ceremony, two individuals are bonded and recognized as one. During the ceremony, the veil sponsors are called upon to drape one side of a white veil over the bride’s head and the other side over the groom’s shoulder as a symbol of unity. This also represents a wish for good health and protection during their life as husband and wife.

Catholic Cord Ceremony

Similar to The Veil Ceremony, the Yugal or infinity shaped cord is incorporated and symbolizes the couple’s bond and union. Sponsors place the Yugal on top of the veil as the couple receives their blessing.

Bride and Groom Attire

Traditional Filipino wedding dresses are quite unique, usually a two-piece dress with large butterfly sleeves made with fine quality fabrics, impeccable embroidery, and vibrant colors. Modern Filipino wedding dresses have evolved over time into the elegant white gowns you often see, but with a slight resemblance to the more traditional Filipiniana. Today, the majority of more contemporary Filipino brides choose white gowns with elaborate embroidery and smaller butterfly sleeves. Most Filipina brides do not purchase their wedding dress as in more western culture, but rather they will rent one.

The Groom sports the traditional Barong Tagalog, a traditional Filipino shirt that is expected to be worn by the male family members at formal events. Barongs are commonly lightweight, embroidered along the front in a U-shape pattern and often handmade. The Barong is casually worn un-tucked and over an undershirt.

Wedding Reception Traditions

Just like many other cultures, Filipino wedding receptions are fairly consistent in their dedication to celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs. It usually begins with the first dance, followed by the Father and Bride and the Mother and Groom dance. Then it’s on to feeding the guests before the other celebratory dances take place, including the money dance, and the receiving of gifts. Intertwined in the celebration will be emotional speeches by family and friends, more food, photo ops, and memories (followed by the traditional hangover, I know).

The Food

What is a Filipino wedding without Filipino food? The delicious ethnic food is a must on your wedding day. Although there is no set menu for Filipino weddings, selecting a Filipino caterer would be a treat for wedding guests. Lechon, Longanisa, Pancit Bihon, and Beef Caldereta are just a few options for a tasty dinner. And don’t forget the rice!

Filipino Money Dance

The Money Dance is also known as The Dollar Dance or The Apron Dance. No matter what you choose to call it, this tradition is a fun one that many cultures choose to include during their reception. The announcer or DJ will ask the men and women to line up in separate lines, grab a pin and wait their turn to dance with the bride and/or groom. Many times though, the money is pinned onto the bride (and sometimes the groom) while the bride and groom dance. The money received during the dances is perceived as a sign of good fortune, while also provides financial assistance to begin their journey as husband and wife.

Filipino Folk Dances

Depending on which part of the Philippines you might be attending a wedding, one aspect of rich Filipino heritage includes a unique collection of classic dances that pay tribute to Filipino history. It used to be common to include these traditional dance performances during dinner or at some point throughout the reception but seem to be losing some flavor with the more contemporary society. Some of the folk dances include the “Itik-Itik,” the “Sayaw sa Bangko” and the “Pantomina.”

If you ever have the opportunity to attend a traditional Filipino wedding, there will be no shortage of having fun with lots of memories of your own. And especially watch out for that hangover the next morning.

Oh, and that couple in the featured photo… that’s us (1986).
