SIBLING RIVALRY! ADIDAS & PUMA’S SIX(6) DECADE OF HEATED ANIMOSITY

Adidas & Puma are amongst world giant sport wear companies, not until recently, i never knew they were siblings, and i am sure there are others like me that are in the dark.

The Dassler brothers Rudolf ‘Rudi’ (the eldest) and Adolf ‘Adi’ (younger) are the co-founder of DASSLER BROTHERS SPORT SHOE COMPANY as far back as the 1920s, in the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Dassler logo & Shoe back in the days…

Adolf ‘Adi, Dassler was the introvert, a crafty designer that designs and made the shoes, while the older brother Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Dassler was more of an outspoken salesman that was responsible for the sales of the the shoes.

In 1936 Berlin Olympics, American athlete Jesse Owens wore the Dassler brother’s shoe, Owens won four (4) gold medals and thus the brother’s shoe became popular.

American athlete Jesse Owen…

Come with the fame is heated tension between the brothers, soon after, their relationship went south. Several reasons were rumored to be the cause of the conflict, the bottom line was that the conflict ended the brothers partnership, after world war two(2), the brothers split the company assets and employees thus ended Dassler Brother Sport Shoe Company.

In 1949 , Adolf ‘Adi’ Dassler coined his trademark name “ADIDAS” from is nickname ‘Adi’ and his last name ‘Das’-sler

Adidas logos from time past til date…

while his older brother Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Dassler named his brand initially “RUDA” from his first name ‘Ru’-dolf and last name ‘Da’-ssler, then changed it to “PUMA”, which is more suited to the fast and agile nature of athletes.

Puma logos then and now…

The brothers even built their factories on opposite side of a certain river Aurach right there in Herzogenaurach.

Years after years of lawsuit and counter lawsuit against each other on all sort of designs and trademarks issues that must have cost fortunes went by.

This feud even precipitated down to the local communities, to the extent that local people picked sides, you are either for Adidas or against it, either for Puma or against it. Love affairs between employees across either company were forbidden, the rivalry was so bitter that the town of Herzogenaurach was known as “the town of bent necks”, simply because local people had to first looked and checked out the company’s shoes you wear before associating with you.

Rubbing into Puma’s face was the fact that they had to do catch-up with Adidas, no surprise, because Adidas had all the technical guys to his side during separation.

Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Dassler died in October 1974 (age 76) and within four (4) years of his death, his younger brother Adolf ‘Adi’ Dassler died, in September of 1978 (aged 77).

Both were buried at opposite ends of the same graveyard in Herzogenaurach far away from each other as possible.

However, in 2009, employees of both Adidas and Puma came together to call a truce to end six (6) decade of acrimony between them by organizing and playing a benevolent soccer match. An honorable move by both companies employees i say.

peace match between Adidas and Puma staffs…

Thank goodness there are so many other sport wear companies this day, we get to pick according to taste and not sentiment.

Road To Glory, Never Been Easy, And Will Always Be Rough. My First Blog On Stishit

The road to glory has never been a easy or smooth one, in fact, often time it is one of the roughest and bumpy road ever, the ultimate consolation for the ones that endure to see out the bumpy road get to achieve the goal or the glory. I believe everyone on this platform agree to this.

I want to you this article, my first on Stishit to remind, encourage and inspire every individual and Stishit that whatever we are passing through now is our/the rough road to our glory, we just have to endure,

“…weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning”, Psalm 30:5.

I want to remind us all of iconic and historical figures that endured the trying time and achieved their greatness.

Joseph the dreamer: I strongly believe majority on Stishit must have read the story of Joseph, son of Jacob (Israel), either from the bible, other religious articles and novels. Joseph was meant to be great, he saw this himself through repeated dreams, but it wasn’t like a stroll in the park for him, he passed through life trials, from been sold by his own brothers, to been falsely accused of attempted rape, and to been imprison for about two years in Egyptian. Joseph after all eventually became second in command to Pharaoh in the whole of Egypt, and it took thirteen turbulent years from time of Joseph’s dream to when it came to realization, all this trying times, Joseph never lose hope, he endured, we should emulate.

N’golo Kante: As a sport lover myself, you should all understand why i included a sportsperson as one of my case study. Ngolo Kante, a Chelsea Fc of England and a French national team player. An accomplished world cup and English premier league winner, one of most sought after midfielder in European football circle. It wasn’t this rosy for Kante from the beginning. He lost is dad, a migrated Father from Mali at age of just 11 years, as it were, he had to support his Mom financially by picking trashes and refuses in exchange for money from recycling companies. All these time Kante had a goal of becoming a footballer and he never looked back on that goal.

Colonel Harland David Sanders: Colonel Sanders the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC), can be boldly called an accomplished business man, but we all read about his earlier failures in life. He lost his dad too at age 5 years, school dropouts at age 16 years, by age 17 years he already lost about 4 jobs, already married by age 20 but got separated soon after. Despite all these set backs, Colonel Sanders rallied, brought back wife and child and eventually founded what has become household name in fast food business.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Sri Lanka, (World first prime minister 21st July, 1960-1965) and Vigdis Finnbogadottir, Iceland (World first Democratically directly elected President 1st Aug 1980-1996). The old folks among us will quickly remember how these two iconic women made history by becoming what they became in the world of men as it were then. If anyone think that was an easy feat, they should ask Mrs Hilary Clinton of the United State how easy it is to win such a powerful position in a men dominated ground. These two ladies were determined and focused, Mrs Bandaranaikes’ husband was murdered prior to her election, it made her even more determined.

I can go on and on mentioning these iconic and historic great men and women that never gave up, the long and short story of it all is all these great people passed through the dreaded rough road and conquered.

I recently read from @binkley blog how Stishit has been under attack from rivals, they must have seen the potentials in Stishit. These are trying time for Stishit, and with the likes of @binkley and others entrusted with the running of Stishit not resting on their oars, Stishit will pull through and will attain it’s greatness.

It is @peman85 first blog on Stishit, I am Nigerian base in the city of Lagos, a graduate of mechanical engineering turned business man. I still hope of going back to practicing engineering someday soon. I hope i did everything ask of me as far as the rules of blogging and rewarding is concerned. I will sure get accustom with the tools use in subsequent blogs, i hope i will be forgiven if i used any wrongly now.

Thank you all.

Stamps Tell Stories

Like little mirrors, U.S. and world stamps chronicle world history and culture. Stamps are more than just a tool to show prepayment for mail delivery service, stamps also tell a story – and each one has a tale of its own.

On July 1, 1859, this Canadian stamp was issued to commerate the day Jacques Cartier lands near Quebec on August 23, 1541, during his third voyage to North America. The portrait of Jacques Cartier is from a painting by François Riss who is said to have copied it from another portrait. Some art authorities believe that the portrait is entirely spurious. Monsieur Riss, a Russian painter who moved to Paris, copied a picture reported to be the likeness of Cartier some three hundred years after Cartier’s first voyage. The historic chateau de Ramezay on Notre-Dame Street East in Montreal owns a similar 48(h) x 36(w) painting . A note appearing in the thirtieth edition of the gallery catalogue states that no genuine portrait of Cartier exists. The nearest is in Ramusio’s engraving of his visit to Hochelaga (now Montreal). Unused Stamp values are currently $1,396 USD (unused) and $93.10 (postmarked).

Where the words “Tea” and “Chai” came from?

In different regions of the globe people Usually use different words for tea but there are some amazing similarities in these words because almost all of these words are derived from only two origins. Why they call it these particular words? there are particular reasons & history behind these words. Some call it “tea” while others call it “cha” or “chai” & they have two groups & both have Chinese origin.
Recent studies show that tea’s origin was China. It is also believed that India or Taiwan or other neighbor areas can also be included in the first known areas where tea was produced in ancient times. Due to its bitter taste it was called “tu”, which was used for bitter vegetables. In 7th century this word was changed to “te” & in different Chinese dialects its translated as “cha”. There are China’s two languages where from the both words are derived, Sinitic & Min Nan. the both are varieties of languages, in Sinitic its called “cha” & in Min Nan its called “te”. If tea reached to us through sea than we call it “tea”, “tee”, “te” or “thee” other wise we would name it as”cha”, “chai” “chay” or “shay”. In Chinese coastal regions they call it “te” because they use Min Nan dialect. The Silk road is also being used for thousands of years to supply tea to other regions of the world & its supply centers are the Chinese areas where Sinitic dialect is used & they call it “cha”.

For Blood and for country

It is truly beyond my abilities to express my gratitude and give my thanks to the military for their service to the world as they fight for our freedom. It is my hope that the following tribute will in part do that.

We are at war! While we enjoy our comfortable homes, food on the table and clean water to drink, thousands of brave men and women of the armed forces are defending our homeland in constant danger, lack of sleep, cold, wet, filth, dust, trenches, hunger and longing for home, so that we may enjoy our freedom. They have put their personal lives on hold, left their families, comfort and all they know to go to another country!

Terrorists are brutal murderers without conscience. It is their determination cause chaos at any cost and are currently infiltrating and targeting many strategic places of work, including government. They will be ready to strike again when the command is given just as they did with the Twin Towers. You can do your part to help prevent this again. We must be prepared.

We, who have been left at home can also defend our country and there are many ways to do that, first, by defending and supporting our troops. Families should support their sons and daughters in their decision to defend our country. Suspicious activities should be reported. The media should also be supportive. Think how we could lift our troop’s morale knowing they have our full support.

So the next time you are eating, drinking or having a wonderful evening of dancing, remember, remember who you owe that enjoyment to. Remember those families who kissed their sons and daughters good bye and had the heart wrenching experience of waving their heroes good bye; watching them until they are out of sight, not knowing when and if they will return. How can we ever repay our debt to these brave souls and their families? God bless and protect our heroes, our military men and women
