My First 6 mile Run (10k) and a Hearty Winter Warmer!

My First 6 mile Run (10k) and a Hearty Winter Warmer!

As many of you that follow me know, I started running on the 28th December and soon after, gave up drinking alcohol on the 31st December.

My Strava Screenshot

It’s been an epic task, but every time I go out for a run, I push myself that little bit further! And today, in – 1 Degree centigrade, I managed 6.2 miles in an hour! That’s 10k, a popular distance here in the UK.

Screenshot_20190203_122853.jpg

I was trying out a few different pairs of running shoes like the Asics Gel and Kalenji Kiprun, but these were no match for my £34.99 Skechers (that I bought on a sale a few years ago, when I thought about taking up running)

IMG_20190203_121132.jpg

My old faithful runners!

So, I love to cook and always make my children and lady a nice Sunday dinner.
I prepared it all before I went out on my epic adventure (well, it was to me) and cooked it all when I got home.

Waiting On A Raincloud

Waiting on a Raincloud – Original Music by DARREN CLAXTON

Waiting on a raincloud.png

I wrote ‘Waiting on a Raincloud one bright spring morning back in March/April, whilst eating breakfast!
As I looked out onto the garden, I saw birds feeding, bees flying and plants growing!
Here in England six weeks prior to this, it was a bitter -5c and bitterly cold.
This song is to remind us all of how beautiful nature and our planet really is.

Lyrics

I’m waiting on a rain cloud
And a sunny afternoon
Everyone is over friendly
Cos they put you in the mood

Warm sun strokes my skin
Which gives me, oh! an awesome glow
Children playing on the parks
The innocence we all once knew

I’m loving nature’s bounty
And the wonders that it grows
Reflecting on the winters
And the icy freezing cold

But we were warm inside our homes
And didn’t really want
To go outside for very long
It’s buried under snow

Under snow oh oh
And nature’s bounty
Was buried under snow

I’m waiting on a rain cloud
And a sunny afternoon
Everyone is over friendly
Cos they put you in the mood

The music he writes is often heartfelt acoustic indie folk with a sprinkling of rock and country influences, with an occasional world music flavour as heard on his track ‘Dragonfly’ . But most of all, it’s his passive emotive thoughts and feelings that are delivered through that soothing vocal, and intricate guitar playing of his.

Here’s my new song Little Words which was recorded in 1 take!

Lyrics

Little words in my mouth
Keeping them locked away not falling out
Little thoughts in my head
Keeping them all locked away until I’m safe in bed

Three words falling
Always stalling
Inside feelings
Like they ought to
Little words

Little times that we have
keeping them locked away for us and them
little world spinning round
gravity pulling everybody down

Three words falling
Onward stalling
Inside feelings
Like they ought to
Little words

Little words
Little words
Little words
Little words falling
Little words
Little words falling
Little words
Little words
Falling down

Thanks for your continued support, comments and kind words for me and my music! I really appreciate it.

Here’s my lovely little Rosemary Bonsai tree. It’s around 4 years old now and is happily in its new home! Bonsai herb plants are really great and especially if they have a wooody stem.

What kinds of herbs can you use for Bonsai?

There is an almost unlimited variety of herbs to use for Bonsai. The choice depends on what you like, and what is available to you. Especially Rosemary and Thyme are often used for herbal Bonsai. Some of the herbs you can use for Bonsai
are:

  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Lemo Verbena
  • Sweet Bay Laurel
  • Lavender
  • Sage French Tarragon
  • Scented geranium
  • Oregano

Inside Your Soul

Inside Your Soul

Inside Your Soul was written at the height of my breakdown, depression and anxiety back in 2013/14.
It stayed on the pages in my book of stories (Lyric book) and never emerged until earlier this year.
There are many songs in that book that still need to see the light of day, but I’ll hopefully get round to recording as my Whaleshares, Steemit, and Choon Journey continues.
I hope you find some enlightenment, and can somehow find a connection to this song of mine. Please do remember, someone is always ready to listen and help, so please don’t suffer in silence if you’re experiencing mental health issues! YOU’RE NOT ALONE!

Lyrics

Won’t you fight to survive
won’t you survive to fight
won’t you live for life will you give
decide, decide

Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Safe and sound, tonight
warm inside and out
find the fear, without, without
calm and still for now, for now

Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Won’t you fight to survive
won’t you survive to fight

Hilarious outtake: what if God could reply?

This is a comical reply to one writer from another writing page whose funny post inspired me to write this. Questions are by the author and the answers are my imaginary constructs of God’s thoughts. Of course nothing of this is serious, but still… This God in my sketch is a universal creator, unrelated to any religion in particular, besides my own.

Questions/ Answers

Why am I always last in the queue when the goodies are being handed out?
– Because you are generous enough to put other people’s needs in front of your own.

Why am I always the last to know about the latest good thing?
– You were too busy doing the latest good thing…

Why can’t I ever be the lucky one who gets the big prize?
– Because you received the gazillion small ones, and it wouldn’t be fair…

Why am I always the one who gets the smallest donut in the canteen?
– Because the sugar is bad for the health and an angel decided to spare you a bit…

Why does the adjacent queue in the supermarket always go faster than the one I’m in?
– Because the devil is testing your patience …

Why are the special offers always finished by the time I get there?
– The expiration date was reached …

Why is the store always out of that special treat I had set my heart on?
– They have learned it causes cancer…

Why does it always rain on me when I don’t have a coat?
– I experiment if your hair will grow back again.

Why do I get all the dirty jobs at work?
– You work with the lazy people…

Why is it always my car which gets dumped on by the seagulls?
– Because animals feel at home with you… I didn’t know it disturbs you, my bad, I will reprogram them to ‘love’ another soul. Is your mother in law good choice?

Why does it always rain just after I have washed my car?
– I’m jealous…

Why can’t I seem to catch a break?
– You will…

Why is it always me who gets dumped on by the big, bad world?
– Hmm, I am trying to fix that for the millenniums, unfortunately … people have the free will.

Love, joy and perpetual happiness to all good people. Thank you for visiting my blog

Chatsworth House Gardens

As much as I love music and creating songs, I’m firstly, a proud father with a beautiful family. I have one of each brand, with their own unique quirkiness and personality. My eldest and most favourite son is 8 years old, very academic and a very well rounded soul, just like his mum. My youngest and most favourite daughter is full of life, bossy, a diva, extremely assertive and hilariously funny! Possibly just like me. So, I’d like to share some of my thoughts of family life and the most important things we can do to strengthen our bond with our children…Spending time with them.

IMG_20180115_173538_828.jpg

At home in the garden – summer 2018

We love our families and spend so much effort trying to make money to provide them with a comfortable lifestyle — but sometimes we forget that giving our kids our time is more important than providing them with cool clothes or the latest technology trends. Even for older kids — who you’d be pretty hard-pressed to get to admit that they want more attention from their parents and siblings — a good solid family unit can have serious benefits.

IMG_20180831_141406.jpg

Conkers, Summer 2018

  • It builds self-esteem in children
Children who spend time with their parents participating in activities together build a positive sense of self-worth. When children feel that they are valued by their parents, they feel more positive about themselves. Family activities don’t have to be expensive or luxurious to be meaningful. Take a walk together, go for a bike ride or play a game of basketball in the driveway. The important part is just being together and enjoying each other’s company.
  • It strengthens family bonds
Families who share everyday activities together as well as share vacations or daily excursions as a group form strong, emotional ties. Studies have found that families who enjoy group activities together share a stronger emotional bond as well as an ability to adapt well to situations as a family. Share your favorite hobbies, sports, books, movies or other activities and build strong family ties for lifeChildren and adolescents who spend more time with their parents are less likely to experiment with substances like cigarettes, alcohol and tobacco, nearly twice as likely to use alcohol and one and a half times more likely to use marijuana.Kids who frequently eat with their families also usually have improved dietary intake compared to those who don’t eat as often with family members.

IMG_20171225_235346_059.jpg

Christmas Day Socks.

  • It creates happy memories
Family time creates warm memories for parents and children alike. Children with happy family memories are more likely to create a loving environment for their own children when they grow up. Learning to work and play as a family unit is one of the best lessons children can be taught so they can develop into competent adults and parents.

IMG_20170807_203026.jpg

Flamborough Head – North Yorkshire

  • It helps parents and children reconnect
Spending time together as a family helps busy parents reconnect with their children. Children tend to share more information about their lives while enjoying an activity with you rather than when you ask them “What did you do today?” It is also a time when life lessons, like sharing, fairness and compassion, can be reinforced without conflict. Children grow and change quickly, so family time is a wonderful time to get to know your child better.

Thanks for reading this post.
Kindest as always

Live Music Video – Thorny Waves by Darren Claxton

Thorny Waves

I created this lyric as a metaphorical way of describing moods and life’s little moments. We ride the waves, sometimes they’re calm, sometimes they’re treacherous and sometimes they’re just downright ‘Thorny’ with spikes of bad feeling and awkwardness thrown in for good measure.

Lyrics

Sail away the thorny waves
Comfort me today
Riding on a sea of dreams
Waving once I’m free
Travel to a time before
You always seem to be
Happiness was once forgot
Wasted all on me
We talked about hard times
And wondered why we changed
Floating in and out
Thoughts surround our doubts

When you find the one you love
Keep them closely by
Precious moments that we share
On a wing we’ll fly

We talked about hard times
And wondered why we changed
Floating in and out
Thoughts surround our doubts

Sail away the thorny waves
Comfort me today
Riding on a sea of dreams
Waving once I’m free

We talked about hard times
And wondered why we changed
Floating in and out
Thoughts surround our doubts.

Food Glorious Food! Frugal Living – Delicious Food on a Budget – Toad In The Hole –

Toad In The Hole – Frugal Living & Delicious Food on a Budget

Frugalism.pngSource

We’ve been living the #frugal #life for the past year now, after deciding that we were spending far too much of our hard earned cash on overly expensive food, from rip off supermarkets and local shops.
I love to cook, and am the head-chef in our house as well as doing the weekly ‘Friday Big Shop’ at Aldi. I work full time at a Special Educational Needs school during the week, and rarely get a chance to muster something yummy up of an evening, but I always cook for my little family on a Sunday.

Chickens.jpgOur newest family members – Dorothy and Annie – They free range and produce the best eggs!

A firm favourite that I cook (as voted for by my better half and kids) is the good ole’ British favourite

‘Toad In The Hole’

Toad in the hole2.jpg

Now, to my non-British cousins here, this meal possibly sounds like a weird dish that ‘The Twits’ would make! But rest assured, it’s a delicious and belly-filling experience that you need to try. Made with ‘Yorkshire pudding batter mix and the best free range quality sausages, this really is a wonderful Autumn into (dare I say it) Winter warmer.
You can also use vegetarian sausages if you’re a veggie too!

There’s even a Vegan recipe too, which will please my besty @d-vine and other vegans reading this, which you can find here on the VeganPunks webpage

Vegan Toad.jpg

Here’s the ingredients and method for you to try, there are loads of recipes online, but I’ve adapted my own and it works a treat every time! so trust me folks!

Cost breakdown – In GBP ££All Ingredients are from the supermarket Aldi

  • 8 Cumberland Sausages (72% pork) – £1.39
  • Plain Flour – 45p 2kg (bulk buy which lasts for weeks)
  • 6 Large Free range Eggs – Free from Dorothy and Annie
  • Olive Oil – 1l – £2.29
  • Semi-Skimmed Milk 6 pint – £1.48 (best to buy a large jug for our family)
  • Salt and Pepper – £1.00 together

Preparation time -30 mins to 1 hourCooking time – 30 mins to 1 hourServes – 2 children & 2 Adults

Preheat your oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
The hotter the better, which will really help that batter rise!

You will need this equipment

  • A rectangular glass oven dish (I find that the batter doesn’t stick as much with these)
  • Weighing scales
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Jug with ml/fl oz
  • Preheated oven at 200c/400f (Moderatley hot)

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 140g/5oz – Plain flour
  • 200ml/7fl oz – Semi- skimmed milk
  • 1 pinch of – Salt and Ground black pepper
  • 8 good quality – Pork sausages
  • 3 tbsp – Olive oil
  • pinch of dried mixed herbs and onions

Method

Here’s how to make the batter

Sift the plain flour into a large mixing bowl, then add the salt and pepper for seasoning.
Make a well in the centre of the flour and crack in the eggs. Using a wooden spoon, gradually beat the eggs into the flour then slowly beat in the milk until the batter is the consistency of double cream.

Yorkshire 1.jpg

Stir in the mixed herbs, cover and leave to stand for 30 minutes.
Place the sauasages in the dish, drizzle with olive oil and pop into the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
I like to prick holes in them to let the fat out, this will help with the non-sticking process.
Pour the batter over the hot sausages in the oven dish and Immediately return to the oven and cook for 35-40 minutes or until well-risen and golden-brown.

Yorkshire 2.jpg

I like serve it with different veg each week so today I chose some delicious new potatoes and garden peas, with thick good ole’ Bisto Best gravy!
I also like some hot English mustard on the side for the sausages and mint sauce on the peas.

Dinner.jpg

Straight from the oven! the aromas are mouth watering and incredibly inviting…I bet you wish you had smellavision!

I hope you enjoyed my cooking blog post, and that you’re now rushing off to the kitchen to cook up this classic ‘Great British’ favourite! Happy cooking and eating folks, and please post your pictures in the comments section if you managed to re-create this dish!Kindest

The Chinese Bamboo Tree

Growing a Chinese Bamboo Tree can teach us a lot about life. Inspirational videos are a good thing to watch from time to time, especially when you need a push. In this Les Brown presentation, he compares the efforts that go into growing a Chinese Bamboo Tree with the focus we should all put forward with our lives!

My Song ‘Breathe’ was played on the BBC last night!

Breathe – Being Played This Evening on ‘BBC INTRODUCING’ here in the EAST MIDLANDS UK!!

darrenclaxton (63) in dsound •  yesterday

You can hear the show from 8pm UK time Here

Happy Saturday everyone and welcome to my song BREATHE!
I awoke to one of the best emails ever this morning!
My little song has been chosen for BBC INTRODUCING radio show this evening here in the EAST MIDLANDS UK.

For those of you unfamiliar with the BBC (you should know who they are) and the Introducing initiative, it has discovered some huge artist over the past few decades and catapulted them to the big league!

Listen On CHOON
They’re real champions for independent artists and really love REAL MUSIC! To be chosen from the thousands of uploads per week is quite astonishing for a solo minnow like myself. It’s not a guaranteed ticket to success but, it’s a mighty good start!

So here’s the all new and improved studio version of ‘Breathe’ It’s a song I wrote a few weeks ago for an online song contest called ‘On Song International’ As ever in my ADD fuelled haste, I quickly created a video and sent it to them! To my delight, they loved it and immediately posted it on their YouTube channel. I’m a fan of independent musicians support and want to see it develop into a bigger animal for us all.

What inspired me to write this? well, I was thinking (I do a lot of that) about all the stupid mistakes that I’ve made in life, and wouldn’t want my children to follow in my footsteps. I gave them breath in their bodies, but I don’t need it back. they walk the footsteps that I make, just don’t follow me, take a ride upon a wing, just don’t look down on me. I never thought of myself as a poet, but reading back those words really stirred some emotive thoughts in me.
I hope you enjoy this little song, many thanks for your support.

Lyrics

Breathe the air I gave to you
just don’t give it back
sing this song I wrote for you
just don’t sing it back

Walk the footsteps that I make
just don’t follow me
take a ride upon a wing
but just don’t look down on me

Breathe the air I gave to you
just don’t give it back
sing this song I wrote for you
just don’t sing it back

Walk the footsteps that I make
just don’t follow me
take a ride upon a wing
but just don’t look down on me

Memorial Day Easy Side Dish

Source: bbc.com

Before I start, I want all to remember what this day is all about. I do realize that we all look forward to this holiday as the beginning of summer. As a kid, I knew it as the ending of the school year. Memorial Day is a day to remember and to honor those whom sacrificed their future for the rest of us to enjoy the modicum (I don’t use this word for sarcasm) of freedom.

We were invited to a potluck and were asked to bring appetizers. A favorite is baked Brie or Camembert. It is like a fondue in a small package and it is so simple to put together. If you make this make sure you bring a few because just one will not cut it. You’ll probably eat it all before you get there.

INGREDIENTS

Boxes of Camembert or Brie cheese – I recommend 3 or more.
Garlic – about 1/2 a head for each box of cheese
Butter – about 1/2 a stick for each box of cheese
Artisan bread – I like to use Baguettes

DIRECTIONS

Unbox the cheese and place in a baking dish with high sides. Add the butter and the peeled garlic. Heat in a oven at 300 to 350 degrees F. It will only take 15 to 30 minutes. Just bake till the cheese is melted, you will need to break open the outer crust to check the cheese.

Jund (Prosopis cineraria): Its propagation and uses

Jund (ProsopIs cineraria) can only be propagated by seed). Its directly be sown through seed or this is raised in nursery in polythene tubes which is sown as under.

First of all its seed is soaked and then planted in polythene tubes and after five days it started emerging. When it gains the above mentioned height it is able to transplant at a required place.

As shown in the picture, it can be grown in the dessert, there fore it is called the king of dessert plant.

  1. It has many benefits which were elaborated as under:
  2. Its propagation method is easily and have suitable/ good germination percentage.
  3. It can be sown directly through seed at the required place.
  4. It can easily be sown in polythene tubes and after attaining the desired / suitable height then can be transplanted at the field at the required place.
  5. Its a highly drought tolerant tree specie.
  6. It did not disturb the field crops, because its roots go deeper in the soil and extract their nutrients from the deep soil layers in stead of upper layer of soil, there fore the field crops extract their nutrients and water from the upper layer of the soil.
  7. As shown in the above (last) mentioned picture it can easily be with stands in the sand dunes of sandy dessert of thal, cholistan and thar desserts. Its presence at such places is the gift of God for man kind and livestock.
  8. It provides shelter and fooder for livestock.
  9. Its leaves and pods are high in crude protein percentage therefore is a good source of protein for livestock.

Eucalyptus camaldulensis; A Fast Growing Tree Specie

Its botanical name is Euclyptus camaldulensis . It is a fast growing specie. It must be grown in water logged soils. It evaporates much of the under ground water.
It has many benefits, which i will elaborate one by one as follows:

  1. It is a fast growing plant specie which is able to provide early income to farmer.
  2. Its propagation is easy and only from seed.
  3. Its seed is sown in polythene tubes then then seedling is shifted where ever needed.
  4. It can be grown as a shelter belt to save crops and fruits from wind storms.
  5. It saves the soil from wind erosion.
  6. It can be grown in water logged soil because it removes excessive from the soil and water logged conditions of the soil removed.
  7. It can be grown as a thick plantation as a thick forest.
  8. Its wood has many uses.
  9. Its wood is used in making crates/boxes for fruit packing and fruit remains safe under these crates or wooden boxes made by the Eucalyptus camaldulensis  wood.
  10. It provides early earning to the farmer because it is a fast growing specie.
  11. Its environment friendly  and mitigate the climate change effect of global warming and it reduces the carbon dioxide concentration as it is used in photosynthesis.
  12. It can be gtown near road sides.
  13. It can be grown near railway lines sides.
  14. It saves road and railway lines sides from shifting of sand dunes when these roads and railway lines passes through sandy desserts, there fore its plantation  is most use full.

The Steel Artichoke

In the square they point me out:
There she goes, they say, it’s the artichoke lady.
They think I got that name because I dress in green
and wear my love locks all a-tangle,
letting them trail like ivy down my back.
Foolish boys.

My heart was an oyster, brating in its cloistered bed of joy;
it held a pearl, a perfect opalescent speck within the sea.
A cortex came, and pluck from depths no man
has seen, my Aztec heart carving it into a steaming stew.
The mist rose from the desert and in the sand a helmet lay,
spoils of war.
Now my heart is an artichoke, clothed in steel

Kikar (Acacia nilotica) Plantation on sailaba land near river bank

Kikar (Acacia nilotica) plant has the ability to with stand under flooded area . In these areas these tree plantation helps to reduce soil erosion by water (water erosion). This tree specie can survive in water for several days and weeks.

This picture shows the situation of Acacia nilotica (kikar) plantation after the flood passed away. As i mentioned this tree can with stand in flood also. If we plant it near river banks, it has many benefits for that area, which were as follows;

  1. It reduces river expansion due to river flow but this tree saves the banks of river beds.
  2. It saves the degraded land.
  3. It saves the soil from degradation by floods and water flow.
  4. It reduces the water erosion.
  5. It provides fodder to livestock during floods, because at that time there is no range grasses and no fodder for cut and carry due to submerged under water due to flood.
  6. Its twigs can be used as a fuel wood.
  7. Its pods are also high source of protein for livestock.
  8. Acacia nilotica provides good earning to the owner/farmer.
  9. Its wood has high rates.
  10. It can be sold out easily due to its good market.
  11. It can be propagated easily.
  12. Its environment friendly.
  13. It can be used as a mitigation tool for climate change because climate change is a world burning issue. In the next blog i will write and mention its other benefits and uses.

Love is important!

Life would be very difficult if there is no love in it. Humans are called social animals, and the reason is that every human being needs another human being; One cannot live alone. If one does, it will make them depressed. It has also been shown in research that loneliness can lead to major depression and even suicide.

Life is difficult, and to deal with day to day hassels, one needs emotional support from their loved ones. If you have your loved one near you, you will feel secure, and only then you will be successful.

As Louise Erdrich rightly said…

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”

Who is truly successful?

What do you think true success is? Lot of money? Big house, cars and lot of businesses?

I think these things are also important, but a true success is when you can laugh in a real sense, when you can smile without any stress, and when you have a true one in your life. True success is when small children love you and they are not hesitant to ask you to buy them ice cream. True success is when you are able to enjoy the beauties of nature. And finally, true success is when you make a difference in someone’s life.

As Bessie Anderson Stanley said:

“He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much;
Who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children;
Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;
Who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty or failed to express it;
Who has left the world better than he found it,
Whether an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;
Who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had;
Whose life was an inspiration;
Whose memory a benediction.”

Marilyn Monroe’s opinion about life and What I think.

Hello guys,

I will share with you beautiful thoughts of Marilyn Monroe about life, about best friends and relationships etc , and whether I agree with her. She says:

“This life is what you make it. No matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them – actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never find your soulmate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.”

I agree that we are the ones who direct our lives; we are the masters of our lives; if we meet new people, it is partly upto us to let them stay in our lives. And some people, despite we having annoyed them, they will not go, and these are the people who could be called true friends; they will always be there to support.

Whatever you do, believe in yourself, and finally, I agree that life has some many blessings and gifts and there are lot of things around us which can make us smile. So if you lose one thing, you will certainly find another thing, a better alternative!

Inside your soul – Original Music by Darren Claxton

INSIDE YOUR SOUL

Won’t you fight to survive won’t you survive to fight won’t you live for life will you give decide, decide
Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Safe and sound, tonight
warm inside and out
find the fear, without, without
calm and still for now, for now

Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Heartbroken promises
inside your soul
where were you my friend
when I needed you most

Won’t you fight to survive
won’t you survive to fight

I found a passion for teaching after delivering a drumming workshop nearly 10 years ago. So I decided to retrain and share my knowledge with others.

I hope you find my post a useful read and please feel free to use any of the resources that I’ve created, as I’ll be posting more over the next few days.

Review your role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.

teacher.jpg

source

As a music specialist and tutor at a special educational needs school, my role is to teach the students rhythm and drumming techniques that will enable them to get the best use out of their instruments. I am responsible for their development as far as getting them ready to perform in a live performance at the end of the school term, for instance, the Christmas production or a special event in the school calendar.

In order to do this, I must build a strong professional relationship between myself and the students which enable them to feel confident and safe, overcoming the boundaries often faced by teachers in my field is also an important skill to learn as the behavioural, emotional and physical demands can become a real issue if they are not addressed early.

In order to carry out my roles and responsibilities in this position effectively, there are certain professional skills required.

These can be divided into 4 different categories

Teacher as a person:

 Confident in communication

 Flexible and patient

 Empathetic and engaging

 Approachable and humorous

Teacher as a classroom manager and organiser:

 Good behaviour management

 Consistent and fair

 Lesson control

 Time management

Teacher teaching:

 Passionate about the subject

 Allow for equal opportunities

 Fun and engaging lessons for all

 Student centered activities

Teacher monitoring student progress and potential:

 A good range of assessment methods

 Aware of student well being

 Realistic target setting

 Give written and verbal feedback where necessary

The Teacher Training Cycle

source

The teaching/training cycle provides a cohesive structure within which roles responsibilities and boundaries can be assessed and reflected upon. The structure of the cycle is very well balanced so the teacher is able to multi-task stages in a constantly developing way. This ensures that the teacher and students reflective growth of role, responsibilities and boundaries remains core to reaching an understanding of the aims and objectives relating to development and the course.

Roles, responsibilities and boundaries

Teacher Boundaries

Mutual respect

   • Safeguarding issues

   • Managing communication and
        relationships in the establishment

   • Setting boundaries and needs

   • Implement deliver

   • Identify needs

   • Plan and design

   • Implement and deliver

Identify needs

teacher.jpg

source

There are different procedures for identifying learning needs. Many times, in trying to identify the needs of students, a Teacher can find their selves going back to student records which contain personal details and learning needs with information on their preferred learning styles. Students’ gender, age, moral, social, cultural and spiritual backgrounds do vary, so are their reasons for the course. This is why as a teacher in my subject area I look at students’ motivation and behaviour closely in order to identify their needs.

Plan and design

cycle1 (1).png

source

From what I have learnt from my subject area and the School where I teach, planning and designing what is to be taught needs careful planning. Designing lesson objectives, creating different teaching methods and using media based tools really help the students with the overall learning experience which is in line with the organisation and evaluative procedures.

Deliver

cycle7.jpg

source

The stage of delivery for me as a special needs music teacher is vital. This is where, after all the planning and design is done, I have to deliver the content of the lesson to students successfully, as any failure here means the whole process is in jeopardy, which can ultimately cause behaviour issues.

Assess

cycle7.png

source

Assessing students in my subject has to do with how well students have learnt a particular bespoke set of skills. My satisfaction therefore would be if my students have learnt what I intended them to learn during my teaching session. I assess this by asking them questions on the topic taught, giving out fun quizzes and encouraging them to make contributions in a group discussion. In doing this, one has to make sure that there are boundaries. Testing should be fair for all students, it should reflect capabilities as regards differentiation (if possible, a dyslexic student whose writing in scruffy and hard to understand should be given a laptop to use word to process his thoughts), testing should not be used to discriminate between and among students. Assessment should also be valid to the subject.

Evaluation

cycle8.jpg

source

Evaluation of the teaching and learning process is successful when I record students’ progress, behaviour and performance with informal and formal assessment results, paying attention to the learning methods which most enhances students’ learning in order to adjust my present and future lesson plans for my subjects if need be.

“Competence is possessing skill and knowledge that allows us to do something successfully. It also describes the ability to apply prior experience to new situations with good effect. Our competency usually increases over time as we acquire more information and ability through inquiry, observation, and participation”. Author: Anon

To summarise all of the above factors would be to say that these roles, responsibilities and boundaries assist teachers in delivering and enabling learning not only as a teacher teaching, but as a classroom manager and organiser and when monitoring student progress and potential. The personal qualities and skills acquired with the use of a model such as the Teacher Training Cycle enables continuous improvement in their procedures through assessment and reflection, this also allows the teacher to overcome possible boundaries they may face; this in essence ensures that the learner has a positive learning experience which aids the development of knowledge and understanding in their chosen subject area.

Resolve – Original Music by @darrenclaxton for @dsound and @steemit

Resolve – Original Music by @darrenclaxton for @dsound and @steemit

Resolve is a song about my childhood. Myself and little sister were raised my dad, something unheard of back in 1980, when our mother walked out on us all. There is still no reason why she did that, but I’ve not missed having her around because my dad is the GREATEST man I know, and my kids have an amazing mother so that is all I need to hold on to. The people in the photo are me with my son and daughter – my sister also had a son and daughter – beautiful.

Lyrics

As a young boy I had my share
of pain and loss but always fair
times I tried to wonder why
was me the others did I try

The garden path I used to walk
back from school, without, without a thought
times were good but they had their faults
but my daddy he did try to resolve
but my daddy he did try to resolve

Travelling back of thoughts when young
the journey’s new the lesson’s begun
keeping them safely locked away
they stay with us tomorrow, today
and help and help and help

Years roll by and memories fade
but the important ones have always stayed
bad times made us who we are
however near or far
but the times were good and had their faults

Travelling back of thoughts when young
our journey’s new the lesson’s begun
keeping them safely locked away
they stay with us tomorrow, today.

Thanks for listening, commenting, voting and supporting me and my music!

Simple philosophy of Life & time!

My favourite quote about life
“Life is like ice, use it before it melts”
My teachers repeatedly teach me that life (& also time) is like ice whether we use it or not it melts, so we should better use it before it melts completely.Time is also slipping away like ice is melting away, so we should not waste our precious moments of life & try our best to use them in not only the service of humanity but the whole universe. Our decision of using it or not will not affect the passage of time but it will only affect us.
So use it and get benefits from it before nothing left for us.

I also found some resembling quotes.

& this is also my favorite one.

A Poem – Somehow True –

This poem was written some time ago and has now been transformed into a song.

DQmXoybSxmMbN1eUtwumb3W5wCMVrLJ5q7d7r58h787GW8r.jpg

It tells a story of relationship struggles, heartache and heart warming make ups and break ups within the strained relationship I once found myself involved with.

Somehow True

Did I once see your eyes?
fell apart then realised
plans we made, then changed again
just the same, rejuvenate

Won’t you take me home?
keep me safe and warm
safe and warm

Stories old and stories new
the lies you told, but somehow true

Count the cost of a lover’s loss
sunny skies, I love your eyes
lost but found, I hit the ground
all is still, I had my fill

Won’t you take me home
keep me safe and warm
safe and warm

Stories old and stories new
the lies to told, but somehow true

Won’t you take me home
keep me safe and warm
safe and warm

Did I once see your eyes?
fell apart then realised
plans we made, then changed again
just the same, rejuvenate rejuvenate.

Selling My Music for Cryptocurrency

Selling My Music For Stish and Crypto-Currencies

I’m steadily understanding the Stish protocol and how it will help to support me and my music in the future. With the popularity of Cryptocurrencies and impending doom of the once fruitful money cow that are the record labels, I’d like to offer my EP for sale here on Steemthat.

SteemThat and Stish have gotten me very excited regarding the future development of my creative musical world. How great is it that we can sell something that others really love to listen to for a digital currency which can then be traded or sold? Musicoin is already doing that but it’s early days for this radical shift in digital sales and streaming. Stish would be a preferable method for me to help this platform grow and blossom!

My music is now selling steadily on Steemit with my fans paying in STEEM or SBD through the direct download links that I create with each post. This is a very exciting time for me and many other quality musicians on the blockchains. I understand that, some users will obviously just go and download it for free, which is rather annoying but, I need to speculate to accumulate and I’m willing to take that chance. Music is my life, passion and therapy, and I write most days. I have so much more musical creations to produce and release here on SteemThat, Steemit, Dsound and Musicoin which will positivly promote and develop a good following, hence, enabling me to realise my dreams of musical success and self-actualisation. I wrote a post here on my Steemthat blog yesterday with direct download Dropbox links to my music. You won’t even need a Dropbox account to download! so what are you waiting for?

Thanks for reading and please feel free to comment on my plans.

Cheers

Darren

Hamparan Sawah

Food Glorious Food! Frugal Living – Delicious Food on a Budget – Toad In The Hole –

Toad In The Hole – Frugal Living & Delicious Food on a Budget

We’ve been living the #frugal #life for the past 6 months now, after deciding that we were spending far too much of our hard earned cash on overly expensive food, from rip off supermarkets and local shops.
I love to cook, and am the head-chef in our house as well as doing the wekkly ‘Friday Big Shop’ at Aldi. I work full time at a Special Educational Needs school during the week, and rarely get a chance to muster something yummy up of an evening, but I always cook for my little family on a Sunday.

Source

A firm favourite that I cook as voted for by my better half and my kids, is the good ole’ British favourite
‘Toad In The Hole’
Now, to my non-British cousins here, this meal possibly sounds like a weird dish that ‘The Twits’ would make! But rest assured, it’s a delicious and bellyfilling experience that you need to try.

Source

Here’s the ingredients and method for you to try, they are loads of recipes online, but I’ve adapted my own and it works a treat every time! so trust me folks!
Cost breakdown – In GBP ££
All In Ingredients are from Aldi –
8 Cumberland Sausages (72% pork) – £1.39
Plain Flour – 45p 2kg (bulk buy which lasts for weeks)
6 Large Free range Eggs – 89p
Olive Oil – 1l – £2.29
Semi-Skimmed Milk 6 pint – £1.48 (best to buy a large jug in our house @meesterboom
Salt and Pepper – £1.00 together

Preparation time -30 mins to 1 hour
Cooking time – 30 mins to 1 hour
Serves – 2 children & 2 Adults

Preheat your oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
The hotter the better, which will really help that batter rise!
You will need this equipment
A rectangular glass oven dish (I find that the batter doesn’t stick as much with these)
Weighing scales
a whisk
a measuring Jug with ml/fl oz
And a preheated oven at 200c/400f (Moderatley hot)

Ingredients –
4 eggs
140g/5oz – Plain flour
200ml/7fl oz – Semi- skimmed milk
1 pinch of – Salt and Ground black pepper
8 good quality – Pork sausages
3 tbsp – Olive oil
Optional extra – Dried Mixed herbs and onions.

Method
Here’s how to make the batter – sift the plain flour into a large mixing bowl, then add the salt and pepper for seasoning.
Make a well in the centre of the flour and crack in the eggs. Using a wooden spoon, gradually beat the eggs into the flour then slowly beat in the milk until the batter is the consistency of double cream.

I like serve it with diffent veg each week so today I chose some delicious new potatoes and garden peas, with thick good ole’ Bisto Best gravy!
I also like some hot English mustard on the side for the sausages and mint sauce on the peas.

Straight from the oven! the aromas are mouthwaterngly incredible…I bet you wish you had smellavision!

7. And Most Importantly…ENJOY!!!

I hope you enjoyed my very first cooking blog post here on #Steemthat, and that you’re rushing off to the kitchen right now to cook up this classic ‘Great British’ favourite!
Happy cooking and eating folks
Kindest

Darren

It’s OK Not To Be OK! – Do you have Mental Health Issues?

  1. This is a repost from my @darrenclaxton account on Steemit.
I felt it necessary to repost this as I’m feeling quite anxious and insignificant at the moment.
I know it’s just the wave I need to ride, but reading this post that I created last month is helping me through this quagmire of uncertainty.
    Thanks.

This following motivational, life coach type message, really resonated with me yesterday.
It’s from a conversation I had with my new found friend @meno
https://steemit.com/@meno

‘Regardless of our understanding of pride
let’s pose the hardest of questions?
let’s say, that you spend the rest of your life
protecting it,
making sure that you never disappoint yourself,
that you stick to your guns, and never show weakness!

Lets imagine you do that…
…..

When the time comes… when it’s over
when you had to eat emotional shit with a silver spoon
to play that game, and you are getting ready to say bye to this world,
Who brings the trophy?

Who says… hey Mr Bloom.. here you go mate… good job
your ego/pride was intact your whole life,
in the 2 minutes you got left to bask in the knowledge, you earned it.

Spoiler! no one… no one does…
Not even you!
The most liberating thing we can do my friend, is let all that go.
We only get one shot… let’s have fun and laugh as much as we can.

Wise words from a very good human being!

The biggest issues with mental health, is knowing there is a problem but not knowing what to do or where to focus your energies – mental health is hard for some people to talk about, so thank you for stepping up and sharing your personal experiences with us.
I have found with my own struggles, it really works best for me to do what you did, focus on family and the things worth fighting for – they are the reason to wade through all the shit and find a way to make ourselves feel whole again, it can take time, but with support like you obviously had from your partner it can be done.
You can come out the other side, and having that knowledge is power! knowing there can be an end to the internal struggle and sadness – once you have that, you’re really on the way, even if it happens again, you now know what you need.

Thanks also to my musical mate @Krystle for her superb input!

During March-April of 2013, I wrote my first 5 track EP ‘Never Grow Old’ which was due for general release later that year. The songs almost wrote themselves and sprung out of me like an emotional whirlwind of emotive feelings and memories of past events. It was a year that saw me play over 50 gigs, various folk festivals and a few radio shows here in England, to promote the pending release of this physical and digital CD. It never really made it further than the few hundred people who bought it at one of those gigs. They were mostly signed copies, so I really hope they’re worth something one day….

Derby Folk festival – October 2013 –

The next part of this story is quite sad, But I feel very passionate about ‘Mental Health’ issues and just want to try and put an end to this overly ‘Taboo’ subject of Anxiety, depression and mental health that so many of us struggle with, and try to hide or act like ‘Nothing is wrong’ the tears of a clown syndrome, as I like to call it. I can only speak from experience and share my thoughts on the matter, and hope that I can reach out and help some of you reading this right now.

I’m lucky that I have music to channel my energy and a loving and supportive family that understand my little quirks and triggers. I’m a very lucky man in that respect but, I fear others are not so lucky , but I want them to realise that, THERE IS always someone willing to listen…Be it ‘The Samaritans’, Your neighbour, a Teacher, Friend or total stranger… Just talk to someone and don’t feel ashamed of how YOU are feeling.

It sadly culminated in my huge breakdown that November. A feeling of utter disappointment that I hadn’t hit the ‘Big Time’ came crashing down around me, teamed with huge anxiety and fear of never achieving my musical dreams and goals!
However, intertwined within all of this chaotic unchartered territory that I was experiencing, came an extremely beautiful and positive moment in my life. A few weeks before, at the end of October, our beautiful daughter was born (second child) which I swear, kept me strong and saved me from completely sinking into oblivion! My son was only 4 years old at the time, and didn’t really understand why ‘Daddy was so sad’ Thank goodness….I’ll explain to him one day when he’s old enough to understand, and I’ll also let him know how much he helped me to realise how fortunate I really was to have him, his sister and mum.

We can analyse the causes of our mental health issues until the cows come home, but we just need to accept them for what they are, random and sometimes completely Irrational thoughts.

I had failed my family somehow, maybe it was the aftermath of such an amazing summer?, or the fact that I had finally addressed a lot of heart ache and bad feeling towards certain people?, or maybe, just maybe, some self realisation that I had messed up so many things in my past relationships, with my Ex girlfriend and estranged mother.
When I say ‘Messed Up’ what I really mean is, letting THEM control MY feelings towards THEM and strive to make them happy or accept me for who I am! but you know what? we should never let anyone dictate to us in this way, force us to accept their love, time and energy or indeed , control how ‘they want us to be.

By the following April I had undertaken Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Counselling sessions to alleviate those anxious feelings, thoughts of being a failure or third rate citizen, and it REALLY helped…
Months and a few years ticked by and I slowly managed to drag my self away from that mind-set, with the help of my now partner and close family members! It’s been a bumpy ride full of tears and laughter, but now, mainly laughter and happiness.

This is the smile I try to wear now! Not the fake one I used to know, wear yours with pride too –

Never too late

If you have ever felt like it’s too late to follow your dreams, that it’s too late to discover and live a life of purpose, then you might be setting your own limitations and creating your own mental prision.

There is this story I was told a long time ago, that I like to tell when explaining this perspective, at the end of the day we seem to learn better with stories and in my case this has been no different.

The story talks about a young man who was studying to be a doctor in a prestigious university. He was one of those young minds full of thirst, but at the same time full of fears and insecurity.

On his first day of class as he walked to the first hour, he kept on thinking to himself how he had to ace all his classes, how he had no time to waste, how he had to be a doctor in less than 7 years, because he did not want to waste his youth just studying.

As he walked to the first class he noticed an old man standing by the door who started to walk into the classroom as well, he look at the old man and said “Good Morning professor”without much hesitation the old man replied “Ohhh no young man, I’m a new student just like you”.

“But how old are you?” replied the young man almost in shock, but without hesitation and with a smile on his face the older gentleman replied “I’ve just turned 73 this month…. “The young man of the story could not believe his eyes and ears so he asked, just to confirm “Are you studying medicine too? and again with a smile the old man replied “Yes of course, I always wanted to be a Doctor and now It’s time to follow that dream”.

After a few seconds of akward silence the young man just had to open his mouth one more time “But… you will be 80 by the time you become a Doctor, it takes seven years at least”. The old man one again with a gentle tone and gesture said “In seven years I’ll be 80 regardless if I follow my dream or if I don’t…

That we may fulfill our days

Job 5:26-27 and Psalm 90:10

You can plainly see that these verses clearly defines that, it is Gods will or desire for every person to live at least 70 – 80 years upon the earth. In other words, every man is appointed the same number of years to live on earth which is clearly shown in God’s word a minimum of 70-80 years. Psalm 90:10 says “the days of your years are three score years and ten: and if by reason of strength they be 4 scores years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we flew away”

God’s will for us is to live a full life. It is not God’s will for our lives to be cut short in anyway. It is Gods will for you to live a minimum of 70-80 years. If you understand this truth yourself, then, Satan cannot deceive you and cut your life short by binding you with some terminal diseases. The word of God clearly teaches us that Satan is a liar and there is no truth in him.

We are to resist the and his lies and he will flee from us. But if we do not know the truth, then we can be deceived. God’s word tells us that “His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. Therfore SEARCH ir, KNOW it ( the word of God) it is for your good.

The truth of knowing that God has promised you a long, full, and satisfied life of no less than 70-80 years without a doubt will be a weapon in your hands in which, to successfully defeat any sickness, or disease the devil brings upon you, or any other lie the enemy is telling you.

You can boldly say “Satan it is written my days to live upon the earth are no less than 70-80 years, so, take the disease (name the disease) and every lying symptom from my body and my household, right now, by the power in the blood of Jesus”

Dear #steemitchurch if you stand up for what rightly belongs to you, that which God has freely given you, and resist Satan, and all his lying symptoms of sickness and diseases, then he and all his symptoms will have flee from you as it is written in the WORD OF TRUTH, the holy BIBLE.
